Default Centax III

Since the car is completed, I'm ready to break in the new engine and the car itself.

When putting the car together the longest it took was to assemble the Centax. Everything else was pretty striaght forward since I have an Impulse Pro. I don't have a feel if the Centax is built 100% correctly. Here is the info, and maybe you Centax experts can give me some advice. I have shimmed the clutch gap just shy of .7mm, I added just one .1mm shim there. And for end play, I added all the shims (about 6 or 7) but there is still some end play...I didn't measure it but I'd say about .5-.6mm. The clutch bell can spin freely when crank shaft pointing either up or down.

Thanks,
Ron

Hi Ron,

Sounds like the clutch gap is okay at just under 0.7mm (you can go down to 0.5mm safely), but the endplay is WAAAYYYYY too much. The endplay should be a bare minimum... just a hint of movement but no more. 0.5~0.6mm endplay is much too much and will give you problems. Pick up more small shims and install them...

Default S710 Switch Mount

For those of you who like using simple mechanical ON/OFF switches, here is a design for a switch mounting bracket to mount a switch on the Serpent 710.

I used 2mm thick fiberglass to make my mount, but you can also use carbon-fiber.

I made two switch mount templates, one of which is shown here.

You can find the image files at:
http://www.travel-net.com/~gcauley/Switch_mount/

Note that I have posted this as an article on myTSN at:

The VIP card is only if you own a car like the one in the middle of this picture.
Please, I don't want to hear any crap about my car.
I still run it, and think it's one of the best cars out there.
Just takes a lot of time to set it up.
The picture was taken before Christmas last year.
That's why my 710 was still bare.
what a great collection of cars. I sold my Impulse to get the 710, i wish i had not. I think i will buy a second 710 as a back up car.

Sorry, I was watching ESPN the other night and watch a lot of drag racing...
We build engines for a few teams. The reason they loose cylinders in the top end is because the engine is basically ready to fall apart!! Think of it this way, in a Top Fuel Nitro Engine, when its running its basically detonating the whole way down the track! Because of the high Nitro content the fuel mixture is actually exploding not burning!!!! By the half way mark down the track, the spark plug electrode has completely been burned off and the engine is running strictly on predetonation! Sounds weird but thats how nasty these Top Fuel Engines are. Thats why they change plugs after every pass, not to mention even if the plugs looked good, they wouldn't be runable after the beating they just took. After every pass, the oil pan needs to be taken off and every bearing in the engine must be changed. Soo much cylinder pressure that the bearings get squeezed flat!! Alot work and money to run a Top Fuel Drag Car. If you want to be competitive and run with the big boys, you need about a 5 million dollar budget to run one season. I hope this help clear up some questions you had.?
