Today I TRIED to run my r40 just for fun but man do I hate that car now I just couldnt make it run right, or may be I am getting used to the 710. I spent almost 5 hours trying to set it up right but no good results but then I took out the 710 and It only took me about 10 mins to set everything up and make some adjustments , and it ran great.

I guess you can achieve the same effect depending on if you change spurs or pinions? or is there a difference / advantage to changind one over the other?
Changing spur gears as opposed to pinions is more like fine tuning your ratios, effectively 1 tooth larger or smaller on a pinion is equivalent to 3 to 4 teeth on the spur.

Congratulations on the good choice :D

Anyway,

Where are you guys mounting your switch? I searched for some pics, but couldn't find one that gave me a definitive answer.

Thanks!!

Mike

Unfortunately I don't use a switch either, so can't really help you there.

You can find the 710 FAQ in the link in my signature - it's packed with loads of good information, but unfortunately nothing about switches

Cheers, Mark.

The rear shock towers should be available from the LHSs thesedays - I ordered a couple of rear shock towers from either rccarinternational.com or www.the-border.com and the towers are the newer thicker versions.

As for spares, I keep a "two-bin system". I like to keep a stock of parts which I think I'll most likely break. I usually keep two spares of these parts, so that when one goes kaputt, I can replace it and send an order in to get a new one - this way I ensure that I don't have to keep the car off the road waiting for parts to come in.
It does mean you invest a bit more money up-front, but then you have the comfort of knowing you have parts at hand.

Cheers, Mark.

My friend put the switch inside the radio tray and made a cut out so that its flush. Very clean indeed but you need a small receiver in order for the switch to fit inside. He has the factory 3PK receiver.

Need to thank Pyramid for the tips on the shocks in his website. Had a pretty bad crash today and banged really hard on the wall. Broke my dog bone, outdrive bearing was bent so bad my outdrives could not move and also snapped my steering rod. The impact was so hard I thought I broke more than that especially my shocks since I had broken 2 in the past. But this time the shock popped off so luckily it didnt break :D Highly recommend the shock modification.

Oh man, there are days when you just shouldn't have got out of bed!!!

All excited I took my 705 to the circuit this morning - first oportunity since Nov last year (Oct really, as Nov was virtually undriveable!).
I think my winter break was too long
Got to the circuit bright and early at 07:00 unpacked all my gear, switched the TX unit on and saw 9.3V   Somehow my charger hadn't charged the TX unit  But no big problem, I had my fast charger with me. I thought I'd do just a couple of installation laps, to get back into the swing of things before charging my TX unit. But, wait  :( where's my fuel bottle :weird:   Forgot it!!!!! Oh no!!!! Ever tried to get fuel into the tank from a 2.5 Litre can - fuel every where except in the tank
With much spilling, I eventually got a tank full in there :( But now I'm thinking I should probably go home to get the bottle - but it's a 1.5 hour round trip
Ok, ok - just do a couple of laps and get the feeling back.
Onto the circuit and my car just keeps spinning - man is the track greasy!!! almost undriveable - hmm now regretting the red spring all round :(
I pull the car back in to soften the suspension off a bit - ehm, but wait, where are the yellow spring!   Oh man!!!!!! Forgotten them!
Ok, I'll just go out for a couple more laps to empty the tank - put car on the starter......nothing!!!!!! The battery is empty!!!!
I can't believe it!!!!! I charged it last night!!!! I even put it through a re-cycle first
Now I'm well p'd off! Time to pack everything back together and go home :flaming:

Back at the ranch, find my bottle and springs - discharge my starters batteries (and yep, they really are flat! :weird: ) - finish off charging the TX batteries and head back to the circuit! Just wasted 4 hours :flaming:

Back at the circuit, the 1/5th guys have invaded - boy there goes my peace and quiet :(
But at least everything is working now :D

Onto the circuit again and spin, spin, spin! :(
Time to loosen the rear diff a little - no effect :(
Ok, use the other set of softer tyres, and soften the shocks.....spin, spin, spin. Oh boy - check the droop, ok there - ok time to do the tweak again - but wait! Where's my spirit-level....oh no!!! Forgotten!!! :flaming: Now I can't check if the surface is level and therefore can't do my tweak   Well, I'm not going home again, so I soldier on trying as best as I can to keep the car under control. Under breaking the car is twichy, but better now that I've softened the suspension, but coming out of the hairpins, the car just keeps roatating. I stick with it for an hour and then decide to try some other tyres - just in case.
Suddenly I notice that the front wheels aren't turning when I rotate the rear tyres forwards!!! :weird:
Oh bugger, the front pulley hasn't been tightened up http://www.rcweb.de/board/images/smi...lie_ohmann.gif

I've been running the whole day with rearwheel drive!
Ok, quickly tighten it up and get back to the circuit - oh boy, this is going to be good, now I've found my problem.......but wait!!!! :( its raining!!!! :flaming: :flaming:    That's it, I've had enough!!! I'm going home!!! :flaming:

Boy, that was a tough day! Well, I've got a couple of weeks without Rc now  and I hope things go better when I get back

Cheers, Mark.

Mark,

Nest time just borrow someones fuel bottle :o

cyba888 04-04-2004 08:21 AM

Today I ran my car again after I went to default settings and the car ran very well. No traction roll..yes! :D I was using 37 shores front and rear with no problems as well. I have a question regarding the front sway bars. The sway bar with the ball seems to go out of place byitself sometimes(moves vertically). It doesnt stay as secure as the cup one, any idea?
