Yup... that's a homokinetic coupling.

Note that those things are used on cars for comfort, to get rid of vibrations universal joints create.
I don't think there's much use for real CVDs in RC cars since the engine creates so much vibration, small vibrations from driveshafts don't matter. Plus the added weight, etc. makes them less effective. On the other hand, they are very reliable and require little to no maintenance.

Default Thanks Julius!

Julius,

Great article on the ball-diff at [url=http://www.mytsn.com/publ/publ.asp?pid=9803]MyTSN[/]!

I followed it and immediately see why my diff wasn't smooth.

Talking

So Julius:

I hear KLM, wanting to save money by getting rid of all the pilots, inaugerated the 1st fully automated flight:
as the passengers were settled into their seats, the intercom announced:

"Welcome the the worlds first fully automatic flight. This aircraft is equiped with four Cray super computers that continually query one another, vote and select the best computer to operate the plane. So you see, nothing can go wrong...
go wrong...
go wrong...
etc....
