N-TC3 Extinct?
#2
the car is not really extinct but is not really competible

Id say that that car is capable in a novice class or a rtr class. its s olid car. however i dont think you will be able to keep up with guys that are running nt1s mtx4rs or kyoshos. If your looking for somthing to start with and your friend is giving it 2 you cheep i would get it.

I would look at it a different way. I would look on Ebay or in the For Sale ads for the latest version of X-ray(NT-1), Mugen(MTX-4), Kyosho(V-oneRRRWC),Serpent(720). Saving $100 to $200 on an old car is kind of a waste. I would save my money, and buy a later version if the car. If you don't like racing nitro the resale value will be much higher if you choose to sell it, the parts support is better and the set-up information at the track from local racers will be far more current.

Find a used Kyosho RRR Evo or XRay NT1. Those kits are currently the best out there and easy to work on and maintain. The difference in price will be worth it due to reliability, durability and performance. Not to mention all the parts availability both factory and aftermarket.

I run a NTC3 and it's a decent car with a ton of parts and setup support. It can be pretty competitive in club racing at the lower levels. Personally, I have found the car to be reliable though a bit harder to work on than some. Getting the right setup makes all the difference in how it drives.
If the price is right, I'd say go for it.
If you think you may want to race competitively, then I'd follow the the other suggestions here and get a newer belt drive car.

Thanks for allthe input guys...I went ahead and picked it up RTR with 2 extra SH 12s for a hundred bucks...I just thought I would give nitro on-road a whirl...
Are they at all fast stock? I will be on a HUGE 8th scale track and tenth scale seems hella small from the drivers stand. I ran an E-tc4 with BL and LiPo and that seemed slow and Im sure it was going about 70...
