squared pins and notched drives
 

hi all,

just want to check how to delay the formation of 'squared' dogbone pins and 'notched' outdrives?

when do you decide that it's time to replace? wear them down to the minimum? :lol:

Yo , Nitro WD, you should replace them if there worn, and in the future you should use a good grease on the dog bone ends, Mugen super joint grease P/N B0330, or Associated black stealth grease is kewl P/N 6588, there are other greases out there but these are pretty good, make sure you check for wear in between races, and replace grease if its dry, well hope this helps.:nod::nod::nod:

btw, what could've caused my right pair of pin & outdrive wearing much much faster than my left pair?

Could be your set up, the way the cars put together, it could be a number of things, i would go through the car thoroughly and check to see if theres no binding anywhere, and if everythings moving freely, you might want to try using upgraded dog bones and out drives as well with harder material...

I replace the pins in the drive shafts, when they are about 3/4 of the original thickness....
The outdrives in my car (Snake) don't wear at all.... or at least, very slow..... but they are really hard steel.....
Replacing the pins on a more regular base will keep you from replacing the outdrives....

In general, when your car is not cornering smooth anymore, the dogbone pins are probably locking themselves in the worn outdrives, then it is time to replace the outdrives....

Yes, easy, but special tool is required....
