the 'mains' or 'main event' is the actual head-to-head race.

prior to that there are 'qualifiers' which are usually 5minutes where each racer is running against the clock. the qualifiers sort out the top 10 fastest qualifiers into the A main, followed by the 11-20 fastest for the B main and so on. the mains are run in ascending order where the slowest qualifiers run their main first.

also, most races have 'bump ups' where the top 2 finishers in a 'lower' main qualify to race in the next main.

also, if you are a 'smooth' driver(ie. don't totally wear out or destroy your car in 10-20 minutes), it can actually be a benefit to qualify lower, so then you get more practice on race day just before the more competitive event. (please note, i am not a proponent of sand-bagging; just making an observation)

Thanks for that link but I'm going to try and get a used one at the speedtechRC club race and flea market that they are having here in San Gabriel where I live, maybe I can save some money there, transponder is expensive damn $100.00 for a new one.

Thanks again for your help nitrodude

Here's a funny story concerning the regionals back in 1998, we were facing the same delimma with short notice, so one night I wrote a funny response to that on the Starting Grid web page, some of you oldsters may remember this and Ron Paris even got a chuckle out of it. I called it "Meeting of the ancient R/C Tribunal!!"...enjoy!! (P.S.- Before you read this, I have NEVER been on drugs!!

G.W.

SGrid Online Sgrid2 Item 107: Concerning the Regionals "Meeting of the ancient R/C Tribunal!!"
Entered by Glenn L Williams (willig) on Thu Oct 29 18:54:50 EST 1998:

And our most elder warrior said, "let the elders come together, we will
talk of a meeting of the R/C gas tribes, a tournament!!".

We were led to the elders dwelling and seated around a big round table,
in the center was a .21 engine running very rich, about 1/4 throttle on
30% Blue Thunder race formula. We were poured in our cups, 40% redline
Fuel. Ancient Elder then said, "before we talk, drink the potion and
take the smoke, only then can we truly pass to the R/C gas car world!!".

As the meeting got under way, one warrior explained that there was a
great yearning for the tribes to meet and compete in competetion,
tribes from the near north, south and east would be invited to compete
in this event. However another brave said that he had a vision of great
failure.

There were too few moons for the tribes to properly prepare for such an
event, especially the tribe to host the contest on their lands and the
rest of the tribunal voted not to have the event this year!!.

But then, ancient elder had an idea, if the R/C gods would allow a few
more moons before the event, the host tribe could indeed complete it's
task. An electric car was sacrificed and speaking through ancient elder
the R/C gods said, "Let the tournament begin and last for two moons!!,
starting with the qualifying on the 10th moon and ending with mains on
the 11th moon of the first month of the new year. We will practice for
the tournament on the 9th moon of the month, this competetion will be
held on our new land to the southeast!!."

With that, all of the elders agreed that this would be a good thing and
now with the extra time, very possible to do right.

So, as the engine ran out of fuel and the smoke cleared, all of the
elders and braves set out to inform the neighboring tribes of the
event, more details will be available shortly.

Stay Tuned!!

magazine! NICE! (Oh, and nice that you got the race worked out too.)
