Dale,
If GM will not go nuts on the Licensing Fees, How about a Cadillac CTS-VR for the IGT2?

They are mounting these on Traxxas SLASH trucks (lowered) and going to be running a new on-road class at Indy Slots (www.IndySlots.com) in Indianapolis. Should be cool!

Hello Guys!

I haven't forgot about you. I bought a GT2 car from Kyosho a few months back for the sake of reference and measurements etc. I want to do a longer wheelbase GT2 style body as soon as I get a few other projects out of the way. I'm much more excited about this project (compared to the GT1) because the longer wheelbase just make these cars look "right".

QUESTIONS: Are the other brands of GT2 chassis the same (or close) in wheelbase and tread width to the Kyosho GT2?

Is the body a key part of the handling package (on a GT2 car) as it is in 1/10th and 1/12th scale? Or, have the tires and suspension setups improved in the last couple years to where the aerodynamics is not so critical for quick lap times.

Is there any rules in place anywhere pertaining to bodies, regarding dimensions and wing sizes etc. I'd hate to spend all the time and money to produce something that was deemed illegal.

Guys - I'm open for to hear your opinions. What style would you guys like to see me design.

Japanese SuperGT ?
DTM Series ?
"Dreamcar" type Supercar (like the totally cool yet unaffordable stuff you see on TopGear) ?
LeMans Prototype ?
_ _ _ _ _ _ _ ?

Think about it and let me know. I appreciate your input.

How can we decide? They all are awesome... The rules say that the bodies must resemble cars that have at least two passengers, race in any GT series or that resemble any car that can be driven on the street. With this I imagine that the LeMans Prototypes are off the list but still not everyone will follow all the rules in every track. The main thing is that most if not all of us GT racers don't want to see 1/8 scale Lola type bodies. As this will ruin part of the appeal of the category in being the one that most resembles real cars.

Dale,

If you go the "licensed" route, something in lines like a Ferrari, McLaren (short or longtail), CTS, RX8, or something from the Touring Car Sedan series. If you go the "unlicensed" route, something sedan creative like you did with the PF8-GT body. I am open/game to anything that is not a "Lola" body.

Dale,
I would prefer the sedan style bodies. I run the PF8 body on my Ofna DM1 Spec car (same wheel base as Inferno GT1).
On my DM1 car, which has a 375mm wheel base I run the Mercedes and G35 bodies. I like the handling characteristics of these bodies, and their scale appearance is awesome.
For a new racing body my order of preference is:
1. Grand-AM (sedan)
2. AUS V8 SS
3. DTM
A creative body like the PF8 is fine, especially if a licensed body is going to be
“cost prohibitive”. I also am not interested in the Lola style bodies.
As far as aerodynamics, yes just like 1/10 touring cars the 1/8 GT cars will need a lot of down force from the front windshield and rear wing. Rear wing height at the roofline and mounted in a fashion like the PF8 (mounting posts built into the body rear trunk area).

The incorporation of ducts to draw cooling air in to the engine area would be nice to reduce the size of the front windshield cooling hole. This is especially true with the “scale proportion” sedan bodies where the roof is not chopped lower than normal.

Dale,

Here is an idea for a body. Probably have to do the "licensing" thing for this one:
