I am looking for an RTR that I can upgrade later. Something under $400 and can go at least 60+ mph out of box
Well at least now I have some brands that you guys mention up top and I did research on all brand listed.

Default unrealistic expectation

60mph is probably something you wont find out of the box and if you do it's not going to be something you are going to be able to race. But if you want an upgradeable RTR go with the Nitro TC3. Parts available probably everywhere!

you can make any of the cars fast by changing the gearing..but its gonna kill the bottom end most of the cars that come stock 60mph out of the box are so high geared they are no fun..they take off very slow and just no fun to me i like some bottomend throwed in the mix myself..

RLich8 - R-40 is not a serpent rip off . The r40 has its steering servo placed underneath the radio tray and you can use regular reciever batteries under the fuel tank instead of those tiny 700 mah that you have to use with serpent.

Perhaps RLich8 is a little too harsh. Some bad experiences with HPI in the past maybe?

Anyway, there is some truth to what RLich8 has mentioned. The 2 speed gearbox looks a lot like the Serpent 2 speed gearbox. The old one that is. Not the new LC ones that comes with the 705, 835 and 950.

BTW, most pro cars in the market are already using these tiny 700 / 800 mAH batteries as what you call them. Even 1/8th scale cars are already using these. Ordinary alkaline batteries are only used on RTR cars as receiver packs if you must know. Those tiny batteries are what you call AAA batteries. They give the most weight savings for the power they contain. When used correctly, they can last up to 8 tanks or approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour of use.

IntialD - I am not talking about alkaline batteries. 1200ma 1/8 scale type reciever pack batteries. You want to get technical about the two speed tranny design that was copied off Ron Paris. He designed that for associated wayyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the early 80's. All the car companies copy off each other.
