Default Spektrum DX3R

I crashed my TC3 during the race today and damaged my antenna that came stock with the DX3R it is the SR3100 receiver. The coaxial part was torn off and my range is limited to about 25 yards now. The local hobby shop says the replacement antennas are on order till Aug 30th. Is there another option for the coaxial antenna replacement? Will the Futaba FASST antenna work since it is coaxial with some soldering? Lastly are most racers here keeping the DX3R antenna under their body without sticking out to protect the fragile coaxial part?

TIA I don't want to wait till August to race again.

Check the antenna to see if it has a mini connector for the antenna to attach to the board. The FASST unit antennaes have the same connector like 2.4 wireless mini pci cards for laptops.

The connector end looks like this:

That's just what the end looks like that attaches to the board of the FASST units.

Thanks,
Are these coaxial antennas like the stock one? I have not pulled the receiver apart yet but will check and see what the connection looks like and if its the same. Can these be purchased @ best buy or circuit city by chance?

Good luck finding those antenna leads at CC or BB. You would have to try a computer store or find a dead laptop with a mini pci network card and pull the antenna leads off that wire up the screen frame area. Most laptops have two antenna lead wires, one black and one white. The end of the lead just needs to have the center shielded section exposed out from the outer shielding about an inch. Either way, if the wire does not have the connector, you should be able to strip and solder the ends to the board if that how you Rx antenna lead is.

I'm going to call around more today for a replacement antenna and if no one has any in stock I will send it to Horizon for repair. I am pretty good at soldering but hate to damage the small PC board for any furture antenna replacements. I wonder since Horizon says they are out of stock till Aug 30th do they still have a few around for repairs?

Contact Horizon, I believe that you can trim the antenna down as long as you leave (30mm) sticking out (I believe). Check with Horizon though for sure.

Just called Horizon Hobby and they told me to send it in and they would take care of it and have it back in 5 -10 business days so I will go that route. He told me not to trim it and for reference that it is ok to leave the antenna tube under the body for protection instead of it being exposed like I had it.

Thanks for the input.
