All of them the same-tamia, hpi, sh, fantom, duratrax-very reliable, but no power at all.

You can get the OS CV non pull for 94.00. It would be a good motor for back up. Very reliable and some power.

Real question should be, which is the cheapest engine that you can be somewhat competative and still last more than a gall or 2.
I have seen a fanthom stay pretty close with my x-12, and also an os cv. I was running very small gearing for a tight track though. Even with that, a local cop clocked my best run at 46mph. Fanthom fastest run was around 40. The OS wasn't there that day, but the next day when racing locally, we go against alot of 5 port sirios, and rossi's. The os acted very close to my rb, but he was geared alot higher, and we both were with the fastest sirio there. It was a mid size track and and a larger track the sirio looked like it would have better top end.

I don't remember Fantom #model of engine, but it is .15, black case, side exhaust, non-pul start, it looks exactly the same as Tamia .15 (flat cooling head), HPI .15 FE and OS .15 tr. Sleeves, pistons, cranckshafts-all parts are indentical and can be use in mix. LOL. It seems all those engines came from the same "building"-all of them 3 ports, side exhaust, no one has buster port on the case (only on sleeve), and all of them after similar mods working the same (actualy pretty good). On Tamia 235 mm chasis (don't remember car name) are running 50-52 MPH (checked with radar on the KZ track). All of them very reliable and last long and all of them ABN. Pretty interesting engines.

You can get the .12tr(S) for $91 but the short shaft crank limits the cars that you can mount it in and it has a rotary carb, but its perfect for the gt.

sorry to get off topic a little but I have the HPI .15 FE motor in my car. Does that mean mine can go 50 mph?

STS makes the cheapest, or should I say least expensive, good quality engine that can get you to the winner's circle. Check CRC for them.
