Default check the 2 speed clutch

there are clutch shoes inside the 2 speed, make sure they are free or that the adjustment on the 2 speed isn't out of whack. you can download the manual at www.rc10.com. it will help you solve the problem. take the trans apart and make sure it's all clean and free. it only costs a few dollars to get new shoes and hardware for the 2 speed.

hope that helps.

oh...and by the way, the driveline on a NTC3 is one way. that's why you can roll it backwards.

if you downloaded the manual, theres a list of pinion vs spur chart that gives approved ratios. If the first and second gear pinion to spur teeth count is off, you will have issues.

So you would rather go off his word then to double check in the manual? If thats the case, you should have bought a new car from a local hobby shop.

It seems here, he used a single speed pinion on a 2 speed tranny. The only way i can see that working, is if he locked down the second gear. That pinion isn't even on the 1st gear. So yes, if he locked down that second gear, then you will have mesh issues. An advise i can give you is, break the car down, check for wear, and put it back together according to the manual. Some one who locked down second gear to use with a single speed pinion is something that hints this guy does things half @ssed. I'm sure it's not something you want to hear, but it's the truth. Also, when you break things down, you learn how the car operates. If I were you, i'd break down all the driveline parts, and inspect it, like diff's, and rebuild it. There's no telling what this guy did, and didn't do to the car seeing that he rigged the car up. I also hope that you make holes in the body to allow air flow, if not, you motor WILL over heat.

pull the 2 speed out and inspect it, make sure it's not deformed or anything.
As far as the diff, the front should be screwed in all the way and then back off 1/8th of a turn, should feel nice and smooth when you turn one wheel with the brakes on, if it feels gritty, it needs a rebuild. The rear should be screwed in all the way and back off 1/4 turn, should also feel nice and smooth when you turn one wheel with the brakes on. If not, it also would need a rebuild. All of this info is in the manual. Shows every bit of how to pull things apart and put it back together. Follow the manual, and you'll be good.
