Default break in bench noise solution

I read on a thread to put a exhaust pipe silicone extender onto the tip of the pipe and put that into a bucket of water to lower the noise level of the break in bench. Does anyone see an issue that this would cause? It sounds like a good idea and If there is no issue there then I will probably try it.

Wow never thought of doing that. But not sure what the added pressure felt at the exhaust tip would due to the engine. You would see a slight back pressure with added silcone tubing and what ever pressure added because of the water. It could effect engine rpm's

I've seen this done at wintrnats!

get every thing ready to break in start the motor and get things running
pipe and all !

Then place a two liter plastic coke bottle up to the pipe mark for a hole for the pipe to insert into the coke bottle and remove the lid to the coke bottle and this quiet's it down greatly !
later
Jeff E

I guess it works like a ext to the pipe!

good info guys, I like the coke bottle idea, I am thinking of making some sort of a muffler for it, that won't impede as much as the bucket of water.

curious, i had assumed the primary noise source was intake roar. So did you notice what they did for the intake side? was there an INS box or?

it occurs to me an added benefit of the coke bottle is it collects the large amount fuel and oil that spews from the exhaust.

Default intake

I dont believe there is much that can be done on the intake side, due to the propeller coming so close to the carb. I was concerned about that with regards to debris getting into the engine, but I have been using the break-in bench for about 3 years and never had any problems.

I use an air filter off of my 2.5 Tmaxx it has just enogh clearence not to hit the prop. I had to cut a notch in the prop cover . I just can't run an 500.00 engine with no filter. The 2.5 tmaxx filter has a very short 45 degree angle
