Depends on which track I run at.
At my local I run one grade stiffer on the rear, but there again I run with very soft springs, 1.2 front, 1.3 rear.

Kyosho of America seems to have decided to only offer the World Championship winning RRR, leaving us merely hoping for a choice between both of Kyosho's very capable nitro touring chassis'. A used FW would probably be a bargain if you try, and its not much to convert it to RR status.

Default A few questions

Ok everyone...I just picked up 2 new FW-05RR's...yep two and quite a few hopups came with them. It was a deal I couldn't pass up. Of course I don't really need them (My kids and I run RR Evo's and just bought a RRR that is still in pieces) but I have wanted to try a proper shaft drive car since my TG10R and then the always falling apart NTC3's.

Anyway first question, one of the hopups that came with the cars are the 39 tooth ring gear sets still in the bag. When is this gear set used? Maybe on large tracks?

Second, both kits came with one way front diffs and I run on short tracks with lots of slow corners. So I probably need to pick up a front diff. What are the parts (and part numbers if you have them) needed to get me set up?

Third, how would I vary from the factory setup sheet when running a front diff including the front and rear diff oil weight.

I am sure you all have already covered this somewhere in this post but humor me with your wisdom.

Thanks

JEFF

Back in early 2005.

They dont make them anymore, but you can buy the parts themselves for little more than what the kit cost.

FW05RR Conversion Manual
Don't forget the 309 spacers in section 8, I lost mine so I use some 1mm camber arm spacer clips.
3racing make a good top deck (yes a good one) and now a front shock tower with alloy mounts (not yet tried).
If racing on Rubber you will be best keeping to the original rear hubs as new RRR hubs only work with Foam tires.

engine fit...?

Will the Traxxas 2.5r engine fit on the Kyosho fw-05r? If not, what would be a good economical engine to put it. What engines should I look for. I sold my Hpi rs4 3 evo and purchased the Kyosho fw-05r, so I need a new engine and pipe. What also will be a good pipe? Thanks.

What's up dude.

You'll like your new rides. Diffs would be a good idea. You need the diff gears, outdrives and possibly the sealing o-ring. I beleive the kit should come with an extra diff case. I run 30,000 in front and 7,000 in the rear. If your track is really tight, 20,000 wt up front would be better. That is a pretty solid starting point because the car should be pretty stable like that. Use the 39 teeth gears because this car winds out fast at just about any track.

I would also go with softer front springs and pick up the optional the gold rear swaybar.

Overall, the car is good, but with the engines we got, you got to really watch your throttle control with this car, because it has great punch, and it can catch you entering corners too fast due to the smooth shaft drive system.

you can get OS .12TR 5 port for like 100 -125$ or so, its a fine engine for the car!

you do not need a high torque motor with this car.
I had a Sirio Evo2 in an RRR and it would just not get out of the corners, but the same motor is now in the FW05RR and it flies out of a corner.
