Aftermarket clutches
Hi, I just got an R40 off ebay and it did not include the clutch. I'm having a hard time locating the stock Centax clutch. Are there any aftermarket substitutes that are readily available for it?
Thx!

You can use any clutch you like, but the pinion spacing will be funky, might need to find some washers to use for first. If you don't find one let me know, we have a brand new spare HPI R40 clutch in the bag I might part with. The mugen mtx2,3, serpent, GS, Ofna clutches are all spaced closer than the R40. Some of the Kyosho RRR v-one's are about as close a match, but finding one of those is like impossible.
Hey bud....
Have you tried Tower?.Type in HPI R40, I see almost every part there...
Check out my R40 on my site, let me know if you need help...

Hey fastharry, we must have seen each other race at the NiftyFifties HPI challenge.
Thanks guys for the help. I've searched through Tower and they didn't have a complete set. I thought I've seen complete clutches (bell, shoes, springs, etc) available in original HPI packaging on eBay before... I was hoping to avoid buying every piece separately. Just wondering if ones from other cars would also work. Guess so with modifications.

And while you are there, check out the pics of the Kyosho spyder I raced in the mid 90's along with my HPI's......
This has to be the sweetest Kyosho spyder on the planet..

Wow, those are some really sweet rides...
I finally gave in and ordered every piece of the OEM clutch, had to do it through several places though... I probably cleaned out any remaining inventory, lol. Wasn't that bad. Still come out less costly than getting a Serpent one.
Cool, hope to see u at next year's event!

I wonder if anyone has tried this before. Or is there a kit out there that allows it. I'm sick of nitro. Don't wanna have to use degreaser to wash my hands after I play with my car. Not to mention the environmentally unfriendly nature of a nitro car.
Basically, the idea is to have a motor mount that will hold a 550 sized motor can in place. And also to convert the output shaft to adapt to the engine pinion. Failing which, the next thing to change is the entire 2 speed gear setup to a one speed setup. It doesn't seem that there is a proper pitch size for electric motor in the gear box though

Wow! So happy to find an active R40 forum I'm actually just starting the hobby and I purchased a brand new R40 for display as well as a used one for running. Hope to learn more about it from the experts here!
