I just won our 2006 winterchamps over here in the sub 1hp class against Mugens, GPX4s and Kyoshos with my R40 by 2 laps. I probably could have held the gap to 3 laps but I just cruised the last 10 minutes by cutting throttle half-way down the straights. So I would say that the R40 2005/Hara can cut it against most cars still.

Wow nice achievement AMG. Your definitely on top of your game! Congrats and good job representing the R40.

Also do you have a setup sheet, what type of track was it? Also any other option parts that are on it.

It might be easier to ask around at some local races.
I just don't want to spend the money on a new body, because I don't really run/race my R40, I just need a cheapo banged-up body in case I go out and bash or race.

Thanks! I was in fact the only R40 at the track which was nice!

This particular track is a carpark track (some pics here http://www.lcrccc.com ) with medium type grip levels. It is really bumpy in sections and you need to pick your line quite carefully to get fast times. Also timing of braking is very important.

I have not done a setup sheet yet, will do one soon. But my car was very close to a stock 2005 edition. Only changes to stock shocks are silver front springs, use all the stock mounting positions. Used stock camber, caster, rear toe and roll centres. 50K front diff and 30K rear diff. I like the Nitro Shoe tyres and used 40 front and 35 rear with a 2mm split for main and even for the qualifiers. I ran them at around 63mm and ran 8mm ride height. Motor was a stock OS 15 CV with stock HPI clutch, 0.4mm gap and 1.7mm on the adjuster nut. The only hopup on my car was the optional brake disc. I used a Stratus 3.1 body with normal wing mounting postion.

I'm pretty sure the pillow balls are the same as the kyosho 1/8th car...I'm not really into them, but I broke one at the track and my friend gave me one and it worked perfect. It didn't have the shoulder, but it was otherwise identical.

I got the kyosho v-one-rrr's they are quite a bit bigger , couldnt imagine a 1/8scale having smaller ones , but perhaps.

The HPI titanium balls are I believe Asia only and expensive. $93 last I enquired. HPI does not sell springs in a kit, but you only need 4 sets to get all of the available ones. No idea whether you can use the AE springs, but I would not recommend it. The stock HPI ones work perfectly fine and suited the car in terms of the spring rates. The NTC3 is a much older car, and older cars usually had much firmer springs.

The asian 0.8m gearbox comes with 21/27 pinions, not sure where you ordered it from. I got the front graphite plate from 3 racing which is readily available from most shops in Asia, not sure again about the US.

Great Job AMG!

Well guys after moving to Stratford, CT now and checking my budget I'd have to see what other stuff I'd need/want to get to go run the R40. Still with the original kit, but still fast.

Mugen ones are same; 8 mm pivot ball. Maybe just a little longer though.
