Sorry to be redundant, but is the R40 supposed to include shock bladders? I see them mentioned in various setups??

From their manuals, it does not seem like they come with shock bladders... Perhaps it's optional or the shock bladders come from other cars?

I agree.. I think most drivers tend to use them on super smooth/flat tracks

Does anyone know of a good guide on the web perhaps that covers all of the various chassis tuning theories. I am considering getting the xxxmain chassis setup guide manual, but I was wondering if there was anything on-line that might briefly cover some of the suspension theories and such, such as roll centers, caster, camber, tweak, etc. - Most of my experience is with off-road hardware so I am in need of a guide to get our feet wet in the dynamics of on-road chassis tuning, it would be real handy if someone published a guide for the R40! We are waiting on a hudy chassis jig so I can determine what effective changes those 'tuning clips' make as we add and remove them for caster/camber, toe- Thanks

Wait for the setup guide that comes with the Serpent 710 ! From what I gather, they would be free and downloadable from mytsn.

Else, you could always hang around at the 710 thread and ask setup questions from the team drivers that frequent there.

The R40 comes with emulsion shocks, so that is why it doesn't come with shock bladders. Just a different type of shock application.

Actually the setup guide in the Serpent 705 (last few pages) is a pretty handy reference for basic setup, but most of that we already sorted out, but anyone else looking for info might start with the 705 manual over at mytsn.com...

Hopefully one of the R&D guys over at HPI might throw something together on the R40.. if anything just a basic setup guide like serpent did, I just ordered xxxmains manual for a reference on some of the other deeper theories of chassis dynamics, thanks!

Hi everyone! when is the 710 gonna be available does anybody here have one already? seems like a lot of people ditched the r40 thread when news of the 710 came about
Wow, did the R40 magicly turn into a Serpent 710 for some guys? Ok - I couldn't resist.. After reading this I got the feeling these message boards are mostly dominated by "bench" racers, and not actual RC car drivers? Anywho, I hope others find some comedic value as I did..

Thanks again for the helpful answers

Ok - I'm trying to derive a baseline setup, based on the specs given in the R40 assembly manual.. and since I built it to the letter from the manual, I figured this was a good place to start the 'baseline'. Anyway I am a bit thrown by the 'rebound stop' and the 'bump stop'. Using the measurments in the manual I ended up with about 7.5mm (in the rear) of what I think is 'bump stop' measurement (going by the graphic on the setup sheet) at full compression of the a-arm. Then I get .5 on both sides (rear) of what I think is 'rebound stop' with the arm all the way down. These measuerments were taken with the chassis on a flat surface using a step guage to the lower point of the lower a-arm (as in the graphics on the setup sheet).

Is this about what others are finding after assembling to the specs in the manaul? I hate to be so anal, but hell it's the baseline, and I really couldn't use Hara or Thad's setup since they have some different hardware than what is in the box, so just shooting for an 'out of the box' baseline.

Everything else I can pretty much derive (well with a little time on the setup board). I have yet to measure the toe, camber, caster to see where those ended up.. I did a search so I hope I am not reinventing the wheel here, just trying to nail that ever important baseline starting point, oh and the stuff in the manual on pg 44, just seems to balance out tweak, not really define the (front) stops. Will share front measurements when I get a bit more time.. Thanks
