Thanks AI and Onnetz for the help and tips with my clutch. It worked great today for my first race. I reshimmed it right and trimmed down the flywheel posts to sit just below the shoe and it made a world of difference. I saw scratches on the clutch bell just like you said AI, and thats what made me trim them down.

I was fast in my cless but only managed third after leading early and having an accident with a stalled car.

AMG Racer you mentioned the Mugen clutch shoes, would any of these work?

Upon inspection I found that the 3 screws for the 2nd gear housing were not sitting flush. I couldn't get the screws to sit flush, so I swapped it out with one from my 04 Spec. I also pulled and swapped over the clutch shoes and clutch shoe boss since I had it set pretty good before.
So before the qualifier, I fire it up. At slow rev to when 2 spd engages, the drivetrain rolls. After 2nd gauge engages, it seems like the motor just wants to unwind and the drivetrain stops rolling . First I thought it was the engine clutch slipping, but I saw the 2spd gears spinning but the wheels weren't moving. (BTW...I stayed up real late last night to put the car together...so I though I probably really screwed something up.) First thought that came to mind was maybe I forgot a cross pin. NOPE, otherwise it wouldn't move at all.....but at low speed with sloooowww acceleration the car moves. I finally took the 2sped assembly apart since I wasn't going to be racing today. I found that the hole where the ball is held in place by a set screw (to space the cluth shoes apart) had worn away and had elongated. I believed this caused the clutch shoe boss to spin once in a while. And that explains that when I would rev the motor really high and fast and let it go back to idle, I would feel and hear a loud click. Other than that when the 2 spd was funtioning properly (only for the first few laps) the car handled and cornered great.

AS AMGRacer pointed out the mid corner push went away, and the car felt so much more balanced left to right. Can't believe those few little changes (actually big) made that much of a difference.

Thanks guys for letting me vent.
Glad you like the handling, seems to work nicely for me. Those holes are prone to wearing out, dunno why. Some of my shoes dont work well, others seem to be fine.

Grey gives the most snap / grip. But wears much faster. 1.5hours. Yellow should last 3.5-4 hours.

Its brand new. Itll be at places that carry mugen more. Im not really sure where that is. I got mine from my lhs.

Grey is probably your best bet though if your trying to solve clutch slip.

Also I just ordered my new radio today. I got the Futaba 3PKS for a pretty good price too. With the Synth HRS setup. I wont be using it , but its good to have that and not worry about crystals.

Ill be putting the new spektrum pro on there once that comes out later this month.

Ill be retiring my 3PJS , which ive had since around 98. Never had one problem with that radio, but figured if there was a 3pk to try this was the one. Good enough price and I didnt have to get it from asia or something.

They got rid of that ugly wheel and put in a nice EDM style touring wheel. Very nice.

Upgrades over the original 3PK include;
Expanded Driver Menu, with "New Driver" "Race-Ready" and "Expert"
menus and a mid-level "Big" menu for drivers of 1/5 scale and
larger vehicles
Redesigned Keypad, with jog button giving access to four different
directions by moving button left, right, up or down and then
pushing in
Vibrating Alert System, functions like a timer to let driver know
when to bring a nitro car in for a pit stop or check battery life
of electric model
Increased Model Memory, 20 models also compatible with CAMPac module
that adds another 10 models
Throttle Mode Select, choice of two servo neutral points 70/30 for
nitro models and 50/50 model for electrics

It should be here tommorrow. Im not sure if im going to use my old spektrum on it or not. If so Ill be racing with it next month.

Anyways, the part# is 87175. Hopefully I can get it in by this weekend.

I'm not 100% sure that the red is a waste of money. It is just a longer life, lower bite option. I have trialled all three of the shoes, and they all seem to work as advertised, so I guess if the environment suits you could use the red.

However I do agree that the Grey gives the best result.

Red and yellow offer the same wear.

For the price though its not really wanted and if you think grey is good. Then yellow is the next best option. I think of yellow as the replacement for red. Has more grip , same wear , better price.

But if you wanted to tune to the very last inch I guess it would be something to have if you have the budget. Would I buy another, no. Unless I was in a pinch and needed a yellow and they only had red.

I broke down and bought the redand grey because I have never heard of the yellow and no one in my area stocks any MTX parts. No one runs the car here. We have a couple of V-One RRR's and 710's and the rest are NTC3's, I am the only R40.

I'm not really interested in the Hara upgrade myself, just don't need it. I do need this clutch working well and appreciate evryone's help.

Trimming those flywell posts down really made the difference. The car is hittin' on all cylinder(s)!
