Just to shed some light to it, I don't think it would pose any problems running without the retainer spring.

Serpent ran it once in their old Centax clutch but not anymore. So does Mugen and Kyosho.

My HPI centax worn out very quickly and i think because of the quality issue and also the engine i'm using so i switch to mugen centax. Surprisingly mugen centax clutch fits right in (includes mugen clutch bell works fine with hpi pinions!!!). IMHO mugen centax has the best quality.

Hi guys,
I'm new here.

As for the comment above I totally agree. I have been running my r40 without the O spring for the last 2 months. And to be honest I can not tell the difference in running with or without the spring. The car runs with other r40's at the local track just fine.

just my .02

Has any one ever tried to run a carbon fiber chassis on a nitro car? That would geatly reduce weight...

Yes, but not good for engine heat dissipation.

For what it's worth, Serpent found that the flyweights WITHOUT the retainer spring on the Centax clutch works better.

The hot setup on the serpent centax was to take the front shoe, cut it into three pieces (slice it by each hole) and put those three pieces in back as the weights without the spring.

It worked way better, this was posted as a column by one of the team drivers on the serpent site.

I was going to try it on the HPI centax but haven't had the chance yet. It's indoor season here in northern NJ.

Default Clutch

Thanks for the response. I'll run it without the spring.
