Default Saying Gbye...for now...

ANyone know if I can run say any of the 4 pinions available for the R40 LW 2speed stock spurs?. The car seems nice, but I'm thinking maybe I could use a tooth less on first or both gears for my track. I'll get them and the mugen greyshow and silver spring. I get these from the Mugen MTX3 right or the MRX4? My MRX4 has it and it's sick. Anyway, gonna be at camp for a while so for now I'm turning off the subs and going to return in August around the 13th. Take care guys and happy racing!

you can run any combo of pinion and spurs....there should have been a gear chart in the package of gears,,,

Default HPI R40 kit

I am building my first kit ever and it happens to be an R40. I am at step 10 where I am constructing the gear shaft...when you put on the last e clip there is nothing to hold the 2nd gear on and I can't seem to find out how anywhere in the manual looking ahead. Is it a bearing of some sort? Also, with the 2 speed assembly, how will I know if it is going to shift properly? Is this something that I will have to play with when the car is running...probably so. The instruction manual needs more explanation rather than pictures...for us dumb newbies....

After you put the metal pin into the shaft, place the transmission on, it has a notch in the back that the pin settles into, then put the outside spur gear on, then put the c-clip on.

I did that. The problem is that the 2nd pinion does not fit on the shaft...the hole is too big on the gear..almost seems like there is supposed to be a bearing inside the second pinion hole so that it will fit snug on the shaft..now it will just fall off OVER the c clip...does anyone know of this problem occuring with the kits??

Go back to step 7 and make sure you assembled both of the spur gears correctly. Part 87082 should fill the gap between the spur and the shaft once installed on the shaft.

the pinion gears are what go onto the motors shaft.. the second spur gear should be inside the first and the first should be next to the clip on the end of the shaft.

there are bearings that go inside of the 2nd spur gear housing.

I really appreciate you working with me on this, but there isn't an 87072, there is an 87082...by the manual, I have done everything correctly.

Spur gears...right. I see where the bearing go inside of the 2nd gear, but the first gear is the one that does not fit on the shaft.

Ok, lets make sure we are doing things in the correct order. From Step 7, the spur gear labeled 2nd spur gear should be installed onto the shaft first W/Purple nut towards the chassis. The one labled 1ST Spur gear goes on last with the purple nut facing out. Is this the order you are putting them on?

This is a shot in the dark. Im kinda confused with what your referring. But I know my 2nd speed / rear shaft needs to be popped into place as sometimes the slot for the e-clip on the end wont be showing. This is easy to do. From the rear of the vehicle press the shaft to the right it should give you all the room need after the reassuring click into place.

MikeyG: if you could post a pic that might help us figure out what is wrong.

I had the same problem with both of my r40s and it took me forever to figure out that I had the shaft backwards.
