I dont believe its in the tuning, because by the time I richen it up enough to stay around 230 its got no power.. It runs great at around 250 and if I can get that power and keep it running cooler with a lola body, then I'm going to do it.

I've read in the nitro engine thread that several people with the same engine are saying it likes to run hot..
My picco .12 engine likes to run hot... Around 230-250 and if I richen it it has no power at all, so I guess it's true, some engines like to run hot hot hot...

wow you guys are pretty conservative my MT12 runs in the 260-280 range with the body on after 5 minutes of hard running. I may be crazy but the engine runs fine and seems to run better hot cause if I get the temps down near 230 it just runs sluggish witch is fine for practice but for the race I lean it out a bit and get the temps up.

thats pretty toasty

I've noticed if mine gets up around 270 I can hear a difference in the idle and any hotter than that and it starts losing power..

im sure running it at 250-260 is fine, its just makes me a bit nervous..

My nova hit 290 accidently one time. I immediatly richened it , then stopped testing the motor.

I was trying to find the sweet spot....still couldnt tell even at that temp. The motor is a wild beast it would run crazy at almost any tune the only problem was getting it to idle and not sky rocket in temps.

Nice to know I ain't the only one with a hot little engine, my HPI super nitro runs really well with that picco engine at around 250, so I guess I can lean it out a bit.

Also just to let everyone know that $120 price from modelsport is incorrect. Its GBP so that converts to about $170 I guess.

I went ahead and ordered it and for some reason the price dropped to 84gbp. So that converts to about $152 for the r40 kit. They should be contacting me back about a shipping quote on the kit.

Still better price than probably anywhere else. But not $120.

Itll be nice though to have a brand new built by me car. Im hoping to loose all slop. YAY!

saving my money for the 2005 kit......

also I posted this in the engine thread but haven't got an answer yet..
does anyone know if the nitro star pro .12rxs needs an extra shim to run 30%?

also I know the shim is to lower the compression but whats the outcome if you need one and dont use one? detonation?

I think you'll need to add a shim cause the engine is designed for 16% nitro (per the manual) and running 30% without reshimming will cause the top of the piston to bubble and detonation

Ok so it looks like the HARA edition PRO4 just came out. Its not in hobby stores yet....but its out. At least HPI is saying.

So that means the HPI REP I spoke to was well informed and the R40 Hara Edition will be out next month. Possibly early next month.

That means by the end of july. We could be already racing the hara editions.

Here are some pictures of the pro4. Even the box looks cool.
