we race in Nanuet NY on tues nites.........parking lot track(100 x 125)....road rail,lights,stand....and this year,transponders(personal)..and computer.....start around 7 PM.....ends...when we get tired(on some nights last year,we ran till 1 am)...........

we still haven't figured out how many play vs race nights we are gonna have....its still not quite warm at night, and the guys haven't showed up full force.....I won't be ready for 2 weeks either.....

touring ONLY.....we might run electric also.....also,we might have a stock HPI class.....running ONLY hpi cars(NO R40s) with the new wide tires and wheels fron HPI...and ONLY non racing bodies(lambo's,pantera etc)...sort of like a stock class with cool bodies...

all that, and you get to meet fastharry..(and see how slow i really

am...

2nd tank on this engine and it's revving almost as fast as my MT12!!?!? . This is the break in method it recommends. It's running fast, but is still rich. Regardless, this engine is a MONSTER! Don't think I'll ever put the MT12 back in.

well almost done rebuilding my r40 i hate rebuilding shocks its so messy when u make a mistake. I got some silicon oil on the floor and tracked with my socks all the floors even the carpet where like an ice rink Well if there any tips to build shocks plz give....Cause i could use a lil help. I thought the ones in the instructions were fine.... I put some associated green slime form\ the o-rings for a better seal too. As for the starter box...mine works perfectly. Once i noticed the car had to be alligned more to the right its just bump and go. No more burn't rubber on the bottom of my chassi

Default 2speed

I've got everything running fine now except for the 2speed..
I went by the book(as helpful as it is) and still no shifting..
right now I have the screws at four turns out..

should the second gear spin freely forward and backward? (this is before installing the engine.. )
I know the first gear has the one way bearing..

looking at the directions it looks like the set screws holding the balls in should be sunk all the way in.. mine wont go that far..
If I do it binds up the balls..

thanks for any help you have to offer.....

Adjust the set screws so that as they are tightened down, they force the two shoe halves apart by only a slight bit ( per manual ).

Then try this..
(1) pull off 1st spur gear and inspect the the clutch shoes can easliy be removed from the second gear housing. If the shoes can slip in and out you are OK. If the shoes won't come out , the adjustment screws need to be tightened more ( probably not your situation though ).

(2) install and start the engine

(3) hold the R40 by the roll bar handle and hit full throttle for about 2 -3 seconds. As the transmission shifts, you will feel the car "rock" in your hand. If its not rocking, then turn off engine and adjust the two clutch adjustment screws CCW 1/4 turn each.

(4) restart engine and hit throttle to see of it shifts.

repeat step (3) until you feel the car shift. This is only a crude method. Eventually you will need to fine-tune the shift point under car acceleration ( on the track ).

If you hold the rear tires while using the gas, you can also feel them shift this way.

LOL ...you probably have to tighten the screws more, assuming you assembled the clutch correctly. Your car is probably starting off in the 2nd gear as your screws are too loose!
