I had a nova rossi powered reflex I bought used...it wasn't that bad....I soldit on ebay..

I was gonna buy a v1r.......but Hobby Service's lack of tech support(compared to HPI's and even Serpents) for the car(esp after my 2 Kyosho spyders).turned me off.......

Default Reasons to buy a R40

fastharry;

What advantages does the R40 have, let say over the Reflex NT?

Thanks,

Thanks,

hey pops..

I didn't have the reflex long enough to give you a good answer......

I've been in love with my tc3's since they first came out.....I picked up the reflex used, drove it a few times and sold it....It didn't drive as well as the tc3's.....And I certainly was not in love with having to take it apart.....

So I sold it and made money...

Now the r40 has my attention...its easy to work on,and I think its easier to drive fast than the tc3's....Now,I'm not saying it is as fast,in the right hands, the tc3 is a rocket....but If I feel more comfortable driving a r40,I might be faster with it...Right?..

Well, I will not doubt you... My point is the option to change any spur to any pinion so long as they are made for either (i.e. 1st gear or 2nd gear) were readily in the Centax of your Veteq and your Impulse and you only realised this until this same feature was available to the R40... That's kinda long isn't it? The concept and understanding is the same as what was said by Steve (nitrodude) about the spurs and pinions in the 3 year old GT4...

well, thats true....but on the impulse and veteq, both gear combos have to add up to the same number of teeth...thats not the case with the r40..

on the r40,for example, you don't have to change the spur gear when you want to change the 1st gear pinion...On the Serpent,if you want to change the 1st gear pinion, you also have to change the spur...

BTW,would you like a picture of my Veteq and Impulse(ye of little faith?)...

No. I think you got it mixed with the NTC3 gearing and the Serpent gearing... On the Serpent Centax, you can use say 15T/20T on the pinions and use 47T/46T on the spurs for arguments sake. You do not need to change the spur gears (or the pinions) when you change the pinions (or the spur gears).

thats true...but if you change one pinion, you need to change the other.Right?..if you go down one tooth on 1st,you need to drop one tooth on the second gear pinion also..

(unless my cars are older, and they went to the HPI same diameter gears,,)

Intial..aren't all you centax gears different diameters?..(like all teh first gears?...)

No. There are no rules to changing pinions and spurs unlike what you have on the NTC3. Like I said, if you were initially using 15T/18T pinions with 49T/44T spurs and now you want to change to 15T/19T for a little more top end, you do not need to change the spurs. You can leave it at 49T/44T so long as you're satisfied with the final ratio that is...

They already had this when the first Centax came about...

Harry, they are the same diameter for their respective 1st and 2nd gears just like the R40 gears. 15T, 16T and 17T 1st gear pinions are the same diameter. Same goes for the 18T, 19T and 20T 2nd gear pinions. Likewise for the 49T, 48T and 47T 1st gear spurs and 46T, 45T and 44T 2nd gear spurs.

Hey, this is an R40 thread discussions... Get on that !

Damn those pinions and spurs, why can't they all just get along and make it easier for "some among us" to understand?
