Well, after running my MTX3 all summer, and winning another point series, I've decided to pull out my R40's again.

I've done some more upgrades, but still seem to have a run time problem with the R40.

Same motor, same clutch out of the MTX3 that did so well this past year, but it keeps running 30 seconds short of the 5 minute mark in the R40?

Have they made a new tank, and is it a new part number? My wife is a nurse, and we used medical measurings to find my tank only holding 72cc. Is that last 3cc enough to make that 30 seconds up?

Also seem to still have a push coming into the turns. I'm on tight, but good traction tracks, that are using VHT for traction. I'm still running HPI tires on both my Mugen and R40's, usally 37 shore all the way around.

I have not tried the 40's in the rear yet.

AMG, Harry, any idea's?

R40 is 1 1/2 years old, but little run time. New light weight chassis, .8M, Titanium shafts, fiber towers and side brace, fiber battery cover, Futaba 9451 digital steering servo 120oz .10, and RB x12 motor, no cuts.

4.5mm front with 55 oil, stock black springs
5.0mm rear with 45 oil, stock black springs
2 deg toe in rear
.5 toe out in front
59mm trued tires all the way around
mazda6 bodies, painted by paintin' Pete 2004 Ifmar concorse winner.

the new tank is the same part #..its got an upper raised lip on the top half..you'll know it when you see it...you might call HPI and say you're racing the car....they might exchange it for you....

as far as tuning,my r40 has the same push....i've grown to adapt to it.....it still turns better than my tc3 ever did...and through chicanes,it is way fast.....

I'd pick up a copy of the xxx tuning guide..

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXEGG9&P=ML

I'd also try the 37's in front.....and then start getting the back to swing around more.....try the 45 in front, and the 55 in back...

here's a couple pics of mine...

those are the proline tmaxx ball cups..

the foward car is teh same car as above..its from last year when I had the OS in it.......now its RB powered...

here..I just took this tonite..I haven't touchd it since the NY hpi challenge....

Thanks Harry. I did some more adjustments tonight. We'll see how it goes.

Yes, that motor is not the RB in my pictures either. I was trying that WASP 3 port turbo. Only problem is, they forgot what the Turbo was for.

My RB gets up and kicks it, in a hurry. I was using the Mugen X12 motor, but sold it. That is a fast motor.

I'll call HPI on Monday, and see what they'll do for me.

3cc at your consumption will equal 12 seconds. So it may well be a tank capacity issue to a degree. There is a new tank available. It is possible that the mugen is a little lighter hence more efficient?

I cant say that my car has a push on corner entry, at least not one that bothers me, of course hard to say what you call a push. As one formula 1 commentator noted getting on the brake .2 of a second earlier can make a push into a fast corner. However one noteable difference to your setup that I use is the stiffer rear springs. I almost always run black front and gold rear springs. I almost always use 40/40 shore tires as well. I find with this combo on my tracks I can balance the car with the front swaybar.

Another hint to make the car rotate harder, add shims under the rear camber links on the hubs. Try 2mm first, then .5 to 1mm from there.

I have some caster clips you can have.

You can make this car brake ultra hard if you need to. You need a decent brake servo tho.

if you think you have no brakes now,try the graphite ..seriously,though,my car has great brakes with a 30 futaba 3010(BTW,a GREAT throttle servo...)....and the car is not known for bad brakes,so you might want to go through the linkage's...

and speaking of linkage.....now that I think about it,you know when I got the best brakes?.....when I put that 3 racing metal brake arm on.........
