My testing of a modification to the HPI clutch seemed to be successful. I used a Mugen Grey shoe which is grippier and used the following settings:

1.0mm on the adjuster nut.
0.5mm endfloat.

The car definately seemed to have much more yank out of the corners. Here is how it looks:

If you order direct from Japan (go thru like 8-10 page back), you can get one for $390 US shipped to your home from Japan via paypal.

the rear turnbuckle gets smashed in, even on the lightest tap against the wall (well maybe not the lightest tap, but still), does anybody know where you can get a better plastic ball end taht wont stirp?

Thanks for the info, Rookie.

I've had my R40 since its release last year, I'm still debating whether to keep the R40 I got and hop it up, or sell it and buy the 2004 spec. Or buy one of these...

Default Final Decision

Ok, this is what I decided to get for my HPI R40, I’ll place the order on Tuesday. Can you check this list please and let me know if there is something that wont work with my car. I know I’m missing the pipe, I’ll get it locally.

I have some doubts about the engine. It says “with big head” and I don’t know if it will work with my car, please let me know.

Also I need to know is this battery pack will plug into the RX without problems.

If there is something else that I’m missing please let me know to add it. Ifit is possible some thing I can get from anyone of these stores.

everything will def work, but for the motor, if you are not worried about spending money, i would get the novarossi ns3, it is a much better motor than the mt12. i run the s3 and i love it, or if you are not racing or not racing at roar events get the s5, it just has a little more power because it is a 5 port, not a 3 port. i know the are both around 275$ depending on where you get it.

I have a MT12 in my car and have'nt had a problem with it. Unless your going all out racing, then there is no point in spending extra $$$. The MT12 is a good, easy to tune, novarossi based engine. Has plenty of power, and is hard to beat for the price. (The 'big head' is not a problem)

golden boy...Go down to your local hardware store...go to the glue section, and they should have something called carpenter's helper.....what it is are metal strips with holes in them....they cut them and put them in screw holes when they are stripped..to give the screw a little extra "bite".....take a piece, cut a thin strip, and put in in the hole..then screw the tie rod in....you won't have a problem after that....

HPIRACER,
why do you have the fuel filter on the back pressure line, I think you have made a mistake. Dont sit up the night before a race and assemble a car.. This is what happens...... Ask me how I know! I just thought I would help.

As for my car, I ran it today, at a very large track. geared 43/47, 17/21 with full foam tires. car was quick but I experienced some mechanical prob's. This one is a doosy. If anyone has purched the 3 Racing alloy pulley for the brake pulley, dont use it. I used mine for two tanks before the pins both backed out and destroyed the pulley. I havent had a problem with 3 Racing stuff untill now. Maybe a bum fit? The HPI aero stratus works well.

Its a pressure chamber . Basically a hollowed out fuel filter.

You can read more about it here:

For those R40 2004 Spec owner wanna be (especially me).....I emailed TANI from Champ International RC in Japan (again, they are FROM JAPAN), and wondering how much it will cost me to ship 1 (one) R40 2004 spec from Japan to USA via PAYPAL...he reponded within 4 hours (now, that is good service) and here is the break down...

Quote......"Thank you for our shop use.

1x HPI #30822 R40 2004 version Kit 33100Yen.

* In the Paypal *.
Item total 33100 Yen.
Shipping EMS USA 6100 Yen, (3.5kg).
Paypal charge 2130 Yen.
Package insurance charge 50 Yen.
Total price 41380 Yen.

In English (or US $) that is (from XE.com)...................$390.234 however, I garantee you that PAYPAL currency exchange rate will be more then www.xe.com....so, let say 5% more....like $415.00 out the door.....

To be honest, this place (Champ RC) is CHEAP, cheaper then those from HK, and they are just follow the sur-charge from PAYPAL and EMS.....33100 for the kits is $312 US, that is exactly like what I expected if this kit is coming to USA (of course, HPI USA disagree).........what killing me is the PAYPAL and EMS.....good $80 US plus total....but they can garantee me to get the R40 within 10 days(if I order today Thursday).......

With all the extra from shipping and paypal......it is just almost the same if you order the option parts seperately and with the stock R40 kits....however, there is 1 specific option parts that is not avalible here in USA (yet) that is the 0.8 pitch 2-speed gearbox plus the 0.8 pinoin set for the R40 centax..........the rest of the parts can be purchase via rcmodel.com.hk or your LHS and of course TOWER.
