The club I race with out here had the challenge a few years back and we would love to have it again. Frank came out did a great job managing the event. Its a kinda sad that the only think left up here is TCS.

These amature race programs are what gets me buying. For me no challenge = no pro4, hpi bodies, hpi wheels & tires, or R40 hopups.

I think my challenge event money would be better spent campaigning a 2nd TCS car this year.

I keep seeing people mention the 22t pulley. I guess this would replace the 21t front pulley for the mid-belt and overdrive the car a little. Is this only for a one-way setup, or can it be used for the front gear diff setup too?

Im runing Yokomo Nitro GT4 for the last 4 years and have already the Limited Edition one and its a hell of a good kit and still competitive (and sometimes a lot better) kit v/s the MTX3 and new S710 from Serpent and Mugen.

Now, i love to try new things ... the R40 its competitive right out of the box or it NEEDS of hopups to be a racer car ?

thanks a lot ...

Or do I ship it, costing me more money? If I ship it, can I send a quart of fuel with it, without any special type of shipping?

Thanks....
Last year when my buddy was going to VEGAS for the HPI World challenge with the R40 and Super Nitro RS4, this was happened to him at the MID_WAY Airport (Chicago area).

R40 is ok, the 12 engine is OFF the car and was packed into the Nova Rossi box and airport had no problem with that....but 110% NO FUEL on airplant (that answered 1 of your question unless you want to challenge the LAW)........On the other hand, his SNRS4...he still have the 12 engine mounted on the car....they picked the car up and said that cannot be allowed on the plane...........my friend argued with him for good 30 minutes or so and stated there are no rule stating that small block engine with NO FUEL inside cannot be carried on board (lugguage, not hand carry).....

But no matter how hard he tried, they still won't let him thru........good thing we have a friend can meet him up at the airport and UPS the 2nd car and engine to Vegas for him the next day.

And the story is..........your engine MIGHT be the problem, FUEL- you can always buy it at any LHS...but engine, hard to say.

After he landed at Vegas...most of the ppl there packed their engines and cars in their luggage WITHOUT any question and probelm, except him..........

So, it is your choice.....

No, I sold it good 1.5 month ago in local Chicago area...break even, didn't lose money or make money.

One thing for sure...........R40 VALUE is much higher then I thought....you can hardly see any used R40 on EBAY...and they usually can be around $200 or above for just roller.

I think you are talking about the stock setting 23T pulley....and I think the use of 22T is for the roll-out due to the use of foam tires (tires will get smaller and smaller)....22T is not designed because to make the belt looser...

I had read that people were having trouble getting motors in and out of this car, but never realized it would be this tight. I ended up cutting a little bit of one corner off the mounting tab of the motor so it wouldn't hit the rear bulkhead on the exhaust side.

Of course, I had to turn the carb to clear the fuel tank, but that makes the idle speed screw really hard to get to and the slide boot nearly touches the clip holding the tank down.

To top it off, the exhaust is right on the mid belt. I adjusted the tensioner, but in order to keep the belt off the header the belt is too tight.

I have an STS D3 and am wondering if this particular motor is designed to sit slightly lower than other .12s. I will probably make a spacer to raise it 3/32" (2.4mm) to give me a little more clearance on both the exhaust and carb.

Anyone else dealing with this?

J
I also have a D3 and I am not really having that bad of a time with it. I have adjusted the carb and nicely and the exhaust clears the belt pretty comfortably. Just crank down on the belt tensioner, the belt will still run nice and free.

The hardest part is definately getting the motor in and out for sure.
