Default 2 speed

20 Smoke,
I have seen retrofiited 2 speeds on R40's already, other thant what you have. Other manufactures's parts can be fitted, along with outside manufacture's, so what you have is not al that SECRET...

AMG,
I use on my car currently 35 shore Speedmind Tiresfrt, 30mm 32 shore Speedmind Rear. My car is glued on my track. I also have tried the new MG Z 200mm by Protoform, which works well too.
email me...

Default runt time

AMG,
how long are you running on a tank? I am getting 5-5 1/2 minutes with stock ratio.

Has anyone put a standard 2 or 3 shoe clutch on their R40?

I normally race on only one track and the centax clutch is really necessary. In fact it will probably cause me more problems than a standard clutch.

I'm still using the HPI tires, 40 front 37 rears. At night, if the track gets slick with pollen, I'll go 37 shore all the way around. I like the HPI tires, but I also like the fast tires, same shores....

PM me if your intereted. I can get you one while I'm still in Japan. I believe they are going for 13000 Yen. Sale tax is approx 5% plus they will charge me an extra 5% for using my credit card. I'm leaving Sat so let me know if you want one.

If you want the R40 2004 spec edition, I have one for sale on ebay.

just to let you know that I found some neat things while here in Japan. The 2004 spec models are out as well as the upgrade kits. I was hoping to save some money out here buy the Yen is getting much stronger since I visited last year. Conversion rate now is approx 102-105 as opposed to 121 last year. I've found some Atsushi Hara pivot balls which seemed to be titanium considering the price I saw. Hara also has some titanium hingepins.

While I was at the store I saw a novarossi RR L5 motor. As I was leaving the store I noticed that they had charged me too much. After asking the cashier..he explained to me that the version I had bought was the JP mod version.

I picked up the 2004 spec edition. So, while I'm here...what parts seem to break the most on this car. I figured I'd stock up while I'm out here. And what other R40 upgrades are you guys buying, besides of course what comes in the 2004 edition?

OK, I think 45,000 YEN is considered the MSRP, so that is a HIGH PRICE.......but my calculation is base on this...
Stock R40 is $39800 Yen listed on 07-2003 from HPI Japan
And the street price of R40 now (online) is around $260

39800/260 = 153.07

Then I used that ratio factor (153.07) onto the R40 2004 price $45,000....

45000/153.07 = 293.98 US$.

We can try HPI PRO 4 too.....HPI listed @ $43,000 Yen

43,000/153.07 = $281 US$

Most online places selling the PRO 4 for $290....+/- $9 only...

So I think the 153.07 conversion rate is very accurate on HPI products.

Of course, there are so many factors that the R40 04 spec will cost more then $300.......but for now, hope the 04 will be around $300-$330 range.

P.S. I don't have any price info or date on 04 spec...I just have too much time in between meetings so I wasted it on RC.
Pretty good calculation. But you forgot one thing. The kits here in japan have the one way and aluminum shocks. Thow in the 2004 upgrades and it exceeds the $293 price. I've seen them for as cheap as $315 here, but it is difficult to come by these cars. I picked up two while I was at the store. I think they had one more in. I did notice that there were alot of upgrade kits. I think that people here in Japan have ditched there stock R40 and just bought a whole new kit.

Depends on which track. At a large high grip track I was getting about the same mileage with the green pinions. On a medium/small track I can get pretty much 6 1/2 minutes with the purple pinions. I do have a big ole Kyosho fuel filter hooked up for some more ccs however. I will post a pic at some stage..........

Track Temps are in the 50's F, but the tracmk is indoors, so it doesnt have the chance to change with the elements, if it's 50 or if it is ninety outside it is still cool on the track. It is sprayed with VHT, and alot of OIL ontop of the track. It is a very weird type of traction. You should see this track, Lap times are in the range of 11.00 secs. I can do a ultra fast 27, but if I go 28 forget it man!
