Ausman,

If you are going to race on-road on a prepared track, stick with the major brands. At the moment these are the Xray NT1, the Mugen MTX4(R), Serpent 720, Team Magic G4RS and the Kyosho RRR. If you wanted to get into the sport for a bit less money, you could try a second har car purchased through the forums - you can generally get a package deal on a chassis, engine and pipe for less than the cost of a new chassis.

Personally I'd stay away from all of the Ready to Run (RTR) cars, except perhaps the Team Magic G4 - it offers the best value and most tunable chassis of any RTR on the market. Don't go near any of the cheap deals on eBay.

Look up your local track and make a trip down there before you buy. You'll get plenty of advice and see what most of the guys are racing. When starting out it is a good idea to stcik with what the majority of your fellow racers have as they can help you with setup, advice and point you in the direction of the best spares supplier.

Where are you going to race? - I'm sure someone from that track will read this thread at some point and offer some local advice.

i started with the team magic g4. it was a good car for me at the time price wise. i had lots of fun with the car. i've seen the g4s , its a good car. guys are running the 720, rrr, mtx4, nt1. but if u were to buy these, its only kits. so u have to put engine of ur choice, servos, radio, tires, body. so it all depends on ur budget. Personally, i would get the g4s. Do some researching and see whats out there.

have fun

If your local track has a Kyosho Inferno GT class... you're in luck too!

Default my 1st car

I started out racing with an HPI R40 which is a pretty good car and the parts were not hard to find and not as expensive as some of the other brands. The car performed well for me, but I sold it because I went to 1/8 on-road and bought a mugen mrx4
