The shims behind the flywheel vary from model to model, I don't know about the mtx-2 but I don't have any behind the flywheel on my mtx-3. As for break-in you will get many different answers, what I do is heat cycle the first tank (run for about 3-5 mins to get up to temp and then shut off) make shure the piston is at BDC (bottom dead center) you can tell when you turn the flywheel by hand it will very very free at BDC. Second throught about fourth tank I run the car at very low speeds checking that the temp is low 200~210F. After that start leaning out in slow 1/8 turn increments. Again you will get many different opionions on how to do this.

Hope that helps some.

Opps forgot some details.... when heat cycling after each cycle I let the engine completely cool... maybe 30 to 45mins.

i am real tired of getting to the track to race and all day
the motor not making a race if you know what i mean
thanks for the help

Well sort of...what I really meant was during the heat cycle phase (3~5 mins) on the first tank I let it cool completely. I also would let it cool completely between tanks as well.
1st Tank. Start rich, run for 3~5 mins stop, piston at BDC, cool...repeat,run3~5 mins,stop,BDC,cool....repeat. Do this until the first tank is done (probably around 4 or 5)
2nd -4th. Run at very low RPM keeping temp low.

5th tank start leaning in slow 1/8 turns.

Does that make more sense?

If the manual says 2 shims then thats what I would use.

That temp is too low for an ABC engine. It should be around 205-210F or so.

I'm not going to say you're wrong, but I will say that I respectfully disagree with most everyone here (in some way... but that is how life goes, huh?).

190-195 may be good, but I wouldn't know because I am not running the engine in. Only then would I know the weather conditions, the engine performance and other intanglibles that cannot be measured quantitatively. Therefore, I tend to disagree when someone says (as you have) ... it should be around 205-210....

Don't get me wrong, it is very good advice, and that is a range during the first or second tank that I find is perfect when breaking in my engines. However, if the day is more humid... I would say also that 215 degrees would be acceptable because of the weather conditions.

Don't take offense I used your remark as an example, but it was the one closest to the reply button .

After that being said, I want to give this as well... You should really watch how the engines behaves on this next upcoming run, super dave. After having the problem of a leaking tank, the engine tuning may become a bit more important as you find how well it really runs with a proper fuel system. It should run differently and make sure no radical performance or temp changes occur in the next run. Since you have not had any major problems yet, I think you should be okay as it seems you are going along quite well.

Ahhhh.... breaking in a motor, the part of rc that is like art class for the scientist. .
