so you are saying after each tank let it seat for 30 to 45 mins?
on the shims it calls for 2 but i just want to do this right
i am real tired of getting to the track to race and all day
the motor not making a race if you know what i mean
thanks for the help

Well sort of...what I really meant was during the heat cycle phase (3~5 mins) on the first tank I let it cool completely. I also would let it cool completely between tanks as well.
1st Tank. Start rich, run for 3~5 mins stop, piston at BDC, cool...repeat,run3~5 mins,stop,BDC,cool....repeat. Do this until the first tank is done (probably around 4 or 5)
2nd -4th. Run at very low RPM keeping temp low.
5th tank start leaning in slow 1/8 turns.
Does that make more sense?
If the manual says 2 shims then thats what I would use.

190-195 may be good, but I wouldn't know because I am not running the engine in. Only then would I know the weather conditions, the engine performance and other intanglibles that cannot be measured quantitatively. Therefore, I tend to disagree when someone says (as you have) ... it should be around 205-210....
Don't get me wrong, it is very good advice, and that is a range during the first or second tank that I find is perfect when breaking in my engines. However, if the day is more humid... I would say also that 215 degrees would be acceptable because of the weather conditions.
Don't take offense I used your remark as an example, but it was the one closest to the reply button .
After that being said, I want to give this as well... You should really watch how the engines behaves on this next upcoming run, super dave. After having the problem of a leaking tank, the engine tuning may become a bit more important as you find how well it really runs with a proper fuel system. It should run differently and make sure no radical performance or temp changes occur in the next run. Since you have not had any major problems yet, I think you should be okay as it seems you are going along quite well.

Ahhhh.... breaking in a motor, the part of rc that is like art class for the scientist. .
