Default MTX2 problems...

a friend of mine got a good deal on a complete MTX2... which had just been broken in and tuned.

when he started it for the first time, everything seemed ok, but then started to display some strange behavior after racing for a few minutes.

the engine would either unexpectedly loose all power, bog down, and stall... either whilst at idle, on throttle, whenever... just randomly

as well as unexpectedly rev its head off, and not move at all... the throttle would be completely closed. basically acted like it was running extremely lean... the weird part is it wouldnt move at all.

does anyone have any ideas to what could be going on?

edit the post and put the name of the engine

instead of the car

because theres nothing wrong with the car(maybe the clutch)

i thought it would be common knowledge amoungst mtx2 owners that it uses a Nova MT12 engine.

I know quite a few people running RBs and Sirios in their MTX-2 as well.

Back to the question.....If engine performance is erradict and random, then to me it sounds like an air leak. Probably one of the seals in the carb.

Make sure it is properly sealed up with o2 safe sensor sealant and then on the next run, richen the low end after a minute or two.

It very possibly sounds like an air leak or a low end needle set too lean.

(I just put the two posts together )

Also, check to see if the tank is bubbling more than it should. Then you would have a air leak in the tank. Replacing fuel lines would be a safe thing to do as well, since most people don't switch them out often enough.

Check the nipple of the fuel tank where the fuel comes out, behind the fuel cap. That's where I found the air leak on my MTX2.

ok ill look into it... but what would cause it not to even move when its revving very hard? even when you touch the throttle the car wont move... then all of a sudden it will move

Do you have a centax clutch on your car? If so, it is poorly set, or malfunctioning. That would be the cause of the strange behavior when accelerating.

how is the clutch adjusted?
whats the servo dead band effect?

so occassionally it will randomly bog down... probably a tuning issue... but the part where you go to accelerate and the car doesnt move... but just sits there and revs likes its running very lean. it will still respond to throttle, but it will idle like you have the throttle half way.

if it cuts off after a few minutes in prob. means that the engine p/s needs to be resized. When the engine heats up there will be a gap if the p/s is worn out and it will shut off.
