I see you are in MD. Do you plan on running at 301? If so, head out there on a weekend and talk to some of the other racers. You might even be able to find a deal on used car ready to go.

No a pull start is a pull start. You pull it to start it. Inside there is a string and a spring with a loaded tension to kick it over. It starts just the way a weedeater or leaf blower would start.

A bump start is used to kick over the fly wheel found on the engine itself for engines without a pull start. I know for a fact that a lot of the cars you'll see at Blue Diamond Park will be bump start. Most of those cars there will be a Serpent, Mugen or Kyosho and possible an Xray or two running around.

If need be there is a thread in the racing section called Blue Diamond 2008. Check it out and we'll give you a hand. I know a good bit of those guys that run there, they are all friendly, helpful and a blast to race with. Trust me, I've been around them since 2001.

You should also consider kyosho's fw05 or fw06, assuming kyosho is well supported in your area. I think the tc3 is a bit outdated and requires more effort to get competitive. The fw05/06 provides a good starting point, and you can upgrade it to a proper racer as you grow. Part availability and local support should be your first priority anyway.
