ROAR 2003 On-Road Open Nats

The RCRC North Texas club is hosting this race next week at Texas Motor Speedway. This Nats is for the 'open' class of nitro cars; .15 4WD (10th scale) and .21 4WD (8th scale). Open practice starts on the 8th, controlled practice on the 9th, qualifiers on the 10th and 11th, and mains on the 12th.

For more info see their site at http://www.rcrcnt.com/2003Nats.htm

$65?!? You have got to be kidding!! Are all ROAR events this expensive? It would cost me $125 just to get into this thing!

Yeah, entry fee is high this year at this particular event. It's the most we have ever paid to run at a big event. The club does give out door prizes and raffles off some items. And the club does have some big expenses such as, rental of property at Texas Motor Speedway, security, race director's fee who also brings along a motorhome and timing/scoring equipment for five days, generator rentals, port-a-potties, trophies, door prizes, etc, etc. But, the RCRCNT club puts on great events that run very smoothly with very few problems. Not looking forward to spending five days in the heat though!

Hi John,

Don't forget the portable water mister we got in 2000, that was a requirement for some. Steve and I can't make it this year (we sat next to you in Miami) so tell Michael to go kick some butt.

Lythion: this is the Nationals we are talking about. If $125 is hard for you to come up with, you might want to stay home. You will end up spending more than that on tires in one day. I have not yet been to a national event that costs less than $2000 overall once you add hotel, rental car, tires, parts, etc. Then again, if I lived as close as you do I would jump to go to this race.

Fraz:
Fair enough, I haven't been doing this that long so I don't have much perspective. Thanks for the info.

Hello John, how are you doing? Michael will be running a Mugen MRX3 and his 835 at the nats. Sorry you and Steve can't make it over for this event.

Lythion, John is right about all the additional expenses involved in attending a nats. Come on down and run just one class. The Dallas club puts on a great event!

Yeah, they really do put on a good race! I went to the 2000 Nats at Texas Motor Speedway and it was great. The heat kinda sucked but I lived in the desert area when I was a kid so it wasn't too bad for me. The generator dying and having to rerun some quals wasn't the greatest either but oh well;)

John: You and Michael should make the journey out to Vegas this October for the Paris race. I still think it's one of the best races of the year. Just remember to bring your motorcycle goggles for the occasional sand drift.[hehe]
