Default Noob with pull start problem

Hello. I just built a HPI RS4 18SS. I cranked and it ran then stalled. I tried to pull start it again and the string wont recoil. Im totally new and have no clue what to do. Any help would be great cause Im stuck with the string just hanging out.

try turning the motor over by hand one way and the other....it should spring back. If not, take it off, and buy a new one....or get a starter box

I took the engine off and lossened the 4 screws around the pull start and wa la it coiled back up. The engine ran at a real high speed when I cranked it up. Will this ruin the engine since it hasnt been broken in yet?
