I t is amazing how many people have different reactions and opinions to cars. I have heard alot of people saying the XRAY has the best fit and Finish, so when I said before that the Serpent requires fit and finish I may have not been fully clear.

The overall build of the 720 is fantastic, the fit and finish throughout is impeccable. The only areas that require fit and finish is the movement of suspension specifically the rear end, brand new out of the box it is really tight. You have to take the time and polish the ball ends for the rear sway bar so it moves completely free and does not affect the suspension, Also making sure the pivot ball suspension moves freely at all angles front and rear, but these are things most experienced drivers will work on feveoursly if its a 720 or XRAY or Mugen or Kyosho, which is another chassis not mentioned here, which in right should be because its a fantastic car.

Im not trying to stick up for the serpent because really I think all chassis are amazing and will do the job, I dont think there is a clear winner or chassis that is better then the other. It really comes down to preference, who knows maybe its the way the box looks or if it says luxury RC car or Race Prooven design etc.. I know guys that swear by Mugen and think everything else is crap, or people who swear by Kyosho and think everything else is crap.

The real answer here to the best car or vs. is the more time you spend with a car because the more you know it and feel comfortable working on it, I can basically build a 720 from new in less then 2hrs and it would be in full race spec, but thats because I have been working on it for 3 years.

One of our local racers had been driving the Kyosho for a year, wen to the Serpent didnt like it, went back to the Kyosho, bought the Mugen, didnt like it, went back to the Kyosho, bought the NT1 didnt like it and went back to the Kyosho, because he understood the car and was able to work on it. My best advice is to Pick a car you feel most comfortable with and in lack of better words commit to it. Because it takes alot of time to understand each car, what setups to put on it for different tracks and or conditions the best tires etc.. Its been 3 years and I am still learning things that make my car faster. Any chassis Mugen, Kyosho, XRAY, Serpent, Team Magic, Heck HPI. With the right amount of time testing practising will all yield you results...k maybe not the HPI

Anyways my two cents

Morgan- I don't fault you.. you just may not have built an NT1. I thought everything on a serpent was bomb till I did lol. If it makes you feel better I thought about getting another one just because It had more of that ragged edge feel that I love so much lol.. .

if 301 raceway is gonna be your home track get the mugen. Chris has tons of mtx4 parts, not just that but I'd say 6 out of ten cars are mtx4's at 301. I have a rrr wce and Im making the switch just because everyone seems to run mugen there and that will make it alot easier If I break at the track.

You won't have any problem with track support for XRAY or Serpent either. There's enough of us present (and even winning) there now.

Parts support for both is adequate at the shop too.

One more jab...a few local drivers have actually switched to XRAY for the upcoming season.

Hey Rx7,

I know the XRAY is world class in its fit and finish, I actually had the T2 which I eventually sold to the Late John Postman, I was also present when one of my racing compadres was building it and it was amazing how out of the box no real extar fit and finish was needed.

I guess my point was that dont make your choice based on fit and finish, because every chassis needs alittle work to make it rightand even just looking over everything after its been built to make sure everything moves freely is a must.

The serpent, XRAY , Kyosho etc.. all have their ups and downs, but it comes down to how well you know the chassis and how well you know setup tunning etc.. At this level in racing with these cars it is #1Driver that knows setup, more then Chassis over driver.

The top drivers in our Area is MAinly Serpent, NT1, and Kyosho with a couple Mugens. There has been no clear cut winner or chassis. Fastest lap times went to a Kyosho, but JB Catricala hated the car and is now running an NT1, Serpents won the most races with the NT1 close behind. It has always come down to the driver in every race.

I don't make my choices based on that. But its nice when I don't have to whip out a file, ream or a rotary tool. The Drivetrain is flawless, one of the fiew companies to hard anodize pinion gears so they last about 5 times longer.. its easy to drive, when you want to dial in more steering you can.. out of the box with little testing and not really all that sure about the car.. I ran a three hour enduro not knowing what would wear out and break before the race was over.. my team and Team Mugen Seiki Ltd were the only teams that didn't break once.. serpent teams with former factory drivers etc broke serpents and the other mugens. I work on 1:1 race cars every day and have been racing RC for 15 years. and for me there is no better car than the xray.. a box setup that allows the car to rotate better, and lower front spring rates are the only things I have told martin we need. Make no mistake, I am not just some kid that gets a jolly out of building things that go togather well.. On race day of you manage to mash your car into a curb.. its nice to know that you can slam the thing back togather with new parts and not have to worry about binding suspension and whatnot.. you can borrow parts from joe somebody and know that they will work as well as the parts you put on months before and the car will be flawless.. that my friend is my point..so drivers being equil.. I will pick a car that is better designed, and that wont give you that Nitro tc3 omg don't touch anything feeling.. and as with any race.. unless its F1 and the engineers really have figured something out so the car is dialed in a wide range of conditions. 90% of the time it will be the best driver.. we had one costumer complain that his car was slower than or main driver.. we had "A" get in that car and he was only about 1/10th off of his pace in his own car when the other guy was 3 seconds off. We didn't adjust pedals or anything... So since its about setup, and driving.. wouldn't you want to run a car that took less work and you could spend more time on track testing or practicing?

Hmmm...could it be the (same) drivers superior strategy?

Don't forget his excellent Twister Tires as well... 2x

Touche'..., now how many times has an XRAY won at 301 versus the rest, big race or medium (we don't have small turnouts)???

ok...im getting some good feedback....thanks guys...and keep it coming....i guess the next question i have is about option parts for the car kits...which company has better or more option parts for the cars? is it better to stay with company option parts or aftermarket like K Factory? if so, what companies besides K Factory make competition option parts for the cars? I was previously told that the NT1 shouldnt use aftermarket parts, just the option parts that Xray sells...is this true for Serpent and Mugen??

Hey whats up Guy, by the way you got a pm. When it come down to MD and even Brooklyn most of the people who run at both of these tracks are so anti-serpent since most ran the veteq and NT 1/8 cars. Then they all became so die-hard mugen drivers, and kysho. And bk hobbies didn't even have a single part for my serpent and a box load of [email protected] s#@t mugen things the problem with things like this is that some hobby shop force people to use a certain car. So imo the northeast is really mugen country but in the 90's if you had a mugen you were on your own. Like I said I have both cars 720 and NT1 but all I'm saying is the quality is the same xray did everything like serpent down to the box the kit comes in. And the plastics are the same in both cars.
