Default Is the OS glow plug different length than other plugs

It looks to me like the OS plugs (#8, A5, A3) are shorter than other plugs (mccoy mc-59 K&b-1l, Novarossi, et.c).

Is this true. And if so, I would assume switching between these two types of plug would change head clearance and mess up detination.

Can anyone confirm and reject this thought?

thanks.

I don't believe that they are of different length... but I haven't looked and compared closely.

I have run MC59s and then switched to OS 8s in the same day, so they should work fine. I actually prefer 8s as opposed to other types and brands of plugs in my MR12.

O.S. Plugs are short plugs, McCoys are long plugs.

Since these plugs are of different length, do you need to shim the head gasket differently (more shims for the long plug)?

Or, is it just not worth it and only use OS plugs in OS engines.

BTW, I have a .12TR(P) engine.

Also, are there any substitutes for the OS plugs. I currently use an OS A5 plug in this engine.

There are design differences between the OS engines (short plug) and the Nova based (long plug) engines. Swapping plugs either way "should" compromise performance, at the very least.

The plug differences are not related to, nor correctable with, head shims.
Can't help you with possible substitutes for the OS plug, sorry.
Ask your LHS?

I run A5 O.S. plugs in my TR and occassionally use a MC59. What I do is put two washers w/ the MC59 to compensate for the length. It runs fine.

So how do the OS glow plug go as far as temp goes? is it like this:

A3 - hot plug
#8 - medium plug
A5 - cold plug

or is it something different?
