Oh man, I still have a SG from around that time (Space, I think, was the model name)... My 3-in-1 1:8 onroader (the first, the last and the only one at the same time )

I'm running 1:10 only, but I've never tried it completely without filter... With sedan bodies the filter is under body and there's lot of crap from the track flying around the filter area, I think it would kill the engine in an instance.

Try to use an INSBOX and cut off the top of the foamfilter. The box will keep the dirt out and the side of the remainig foamfilter will act as a small wall arround the air intake.

By the way....

On my 1:10 i used an ins box with an filter but the filter got flooded with water, so i came in the pit and my mechanic removed the filter completely and it ran much better. This was with an touring body. When using an lola and an ins box i could keep the filter in the insbox as the body is below the filter.

Roelof on your video i noticed you drift a lot in the wet with your 1/8, Is this the only way to drive in the rain or does that depends on the tire choice?

There are better tires, drifting I do for fun on Aqua tires. Aqua's will give a nice balanced grip on a slight wet track. In the full rain I use a set from Microsystems like the current Kiss raintires.

It is a shame Tamiya isn't making their caps anymore, caps around a soft foamtire is a very good solution for driving in the rain.
