pics of TRX 2.5 in my NTC3
I posted a bit ago about being able to fit a 2.5 in a NTC3. I got mixed responces but decided to go for it any way. It wasnt as easy as i anticipated, but nothing a little head scratching couldnt solve. 4 tanks break-in so far and looks like this will be a nice engine. I have an MT12 in my other ntc3 and thought ill try a 2.5 in this car. I think i will be impressed. Here are some pics...

I thought it comes with a starter built on

the starter was taken off

What'd you do about the IPS shaft being shorter than a standard SG shaft? Or is it the right length?
dave, that was one of the big problems. This is how i did it. i used a longer shaft screw, cut off about a 4mm piece of an older shaft i had then threaded it on the screw. so you have a screw with a piece of a shaft already screwed on to it. the rest of the screw was then screwed into the actual shaft. this is effectively increasing the length of the shaft. very hard to explain but hope you got the idea.
I get the idea. Theoretically, couldn't you have cut the shaft down like you would for a GT, and then used the other clutch nut with the pilot shaft on it, that way, or are the thread sizes different?
its different thread, you have to use the traxxas clutch nut
Ah, gotcha. Figured something like that would keep the solution from being that simple. :ha:
wouldn't it have been easier to get the 2.5 with the right shaft?..other than that, looks good..
Looks cool! I'm glad to see the original header fits. I had heard initial reports that it did. Did you have to bend it up a little, or did the coupling take care of it for you? Now all you need to get is one of the Sirio AAC 5-port piston/sleeve sets!
Harry, I'm pretty sure the 2.5 only comes with the IPS shaft.
Keep us updated on how it runs compared to the MT12!
I've been thinking about putting a TRX2.5 in my FW04 when Traxxas comes out with a standard shaft version. |
ok, 6 tanks breakin so far of idling 2 then bliping 3. ran it on the track today with a very rich setting. Idling temp is 130-150, and running on the track after a straight the temp would spike to 190. so still quite rich. One thing i noticed right away on this engine is the carb. traxxas did an excellent job on the carb. responds to changes very well without any unexpected behavior from the engine. running that rich today it was keeping up no problem with th e RBs and Novas on the straights and was actually out accelarating them in the low end, all at 190 peak temp. Very impressed so far. no comparison to the old pro .15, that engine was the worst POS i saw. got rid of it when i had my tmaxx 2 yrs ago. i am going to start leaning out the engine. will report back once i got more tanks through.
ntc3nut, the header fit with no bending. |
Originally posted by speedydave Harry, I'm pretty sure the 2.5 only comes with the IPS shaft. yeah, you might be right..but they also have listed a multi shaft engine....and I remember talking to traxxas when this engine came out,and they said they were maiking differnt versions for all cars(like they did with the trx 15).. |

PS: Angle your carb a little more so that the throttle linkage has a more efficient straight shot. This will reduce the chances of the slide binding. |
