Default I saw a kid on a unicycle today...

I saw a kid on a unicycle today. First time I've seen a unicycle in years - and it got me thinking…

I wonder if more people own unicycles than on-road R/C cars? Do people race unicycles? Do they have clubs? Are there Pro unicycle racers? Can racers get sponsored? Do they give up their Sundays or weekends to race? Do they have clicks or bullies or people that won’t help new racers learn how to ride? Do they have classes for beginners to encourage people to start racing? Do they want unicycle racing to go “mainstream” and have more people race unicycles? Do they give out prize money to attract more people to the “sport.” Do people contemplate building beautiful unicycle racing facilities, so people have a place to race? Do they try to get press coverage of their events? Do they advertise? Are they concerned about getting ESPN or Fox Sports to cover their events? Are they jealous when other “sports” get covered on TV and unicycle racing doesn’t? Do they have live coverage and results online? Do they try to get corporate sponsors? Do they complain about their officers not doing enough to promote unicycle racing? Do they complain about the cost of the unicycles and other gear? Do bicycle shops close because people have lost interest in unicycles? Do people think that older unicycle racers are just a bunch of kids that haven’t grown up? Do they have infighting among other unicycle enthusiasts about the future of unicycle racing? I wonder if unicycle racers think that other people are missing out on life because they don’t race unicycles?

But then I thought, “Nah! Who would want to race a unicycle anyway? Certainly nobody at RCTech!”

There is a point to this post. It's in between the lines, but it's there.

Cheers

When I saw the tittle of the thread, it brought back a memory.

When I was working in Internet sales at a Honda Dealership in North Charleston, My boss, Mr Stokes, came in one day, riding a Unicycle. This is a man who probably never had a need for something like that, but he also was a fond lover of motorcycles. I traded in a motorcycle on a car one day and it wasn't soon after that, he was riding back and forth in the parking lot on the front tire of the motorcycle (a front wheely) and a the end of the parking lot, he would turn the bike on the front tire. That made me think that the balance that a unicycle takes to ride..........this didn't realy go anywhere, but just wanted to share.

Thanks for sharing!

When I was in eighth grade, these two new boys brought out their unicycle and started riding in front of their apartment complex. All the other kids in our small community came to check it out and everyone wanted to try it. After a few hours, I think only one other person managed to stay on it for more than a few feet. After that, we never saw it again...

When I think of unicycles, I envision those guys I've seen on TV that are riding a unicycle and juggling. Prior to some of our recent discussions here, I never would have thought that people actually race these things.

People will race anything, from bugs to horses to cars to planes.

Remember when we were kids, do you ever race your bike or hot rod car. Did it ever involve a bet?

That’s a touching story RMD.

I like the “quote words” and familiar “catch phrases”, and the parody of it all.

We saw him too on the way back from the bar last night.

He was in the middle of the street having a real hard time getting up a small hill. So we asked him if he wanted to throw his unicycle in the back of our truck and we’d give him a lift up the hill.

He just looked at us, gave us the finger and said “screw you and your help”.
We beeped the horn, told him “then move over to the sidewalk, we have places to go & people to see, you’re standing in our way”.

He just looked at us again, gave us the finger and said “screw you and your people, dam right I’m gonna stay in your way too. This is my street, always has been, always will”.

He left us no choice, he wouldn’t move out of the middle of the road, so we ran him over. Now he’s on the side of the road.

I guess he shouldn’t have been such a selfish jerk about the road he thought he owned.

There’s a point to this part of the story, not sure if its between the lines or not.

Accept our help or move to the side - otherwise we'll run your ass over?!

I think the unicyclist is delusional and the truck is just in his imagination.

Some people reading our posts will be so confused. They're probably asking themselves, WTF does unicycles have to do with RC racing? And what the hell are those two getting at?

You've probably seen this on YouTube, but I think you might like it.
