The problem is, it seems like a crapshoot if a particular clutch will work with three 5x8 bearings up front. I have tried a Werks, an RC8 stock clutch, a Fioroni slider, a Fioroni Vario/PSR, and now the RMV Speed(at least I tried to fit this last one with the Kyosho bell. I ran all the others.. - except the Werks.. The Kyosho bell didn't seem to fit it right..) I really wish I had kept the stock clutches...

Only the Fioroni Vario seems to shim up with three 5x8's up front with no issues. It's what's in the car now, and it spins great and "feels" right.. The others required two 5x8's and what to me felt like too many shims to make up the difference.. It was in those that the front bearings were really going to hell...

The Kyosho bell just doesn't spin freely. Because of the angled ridge at the front of the bell, you have to add a pretty big shim behind the big bearing.. And I don't know, it just felt wrong.. Plus(especially being shimmed forward..) it doesn't cover much more than half the clutch-shoe face.. Whole thing is weird... Maybe I just need the stock clutch... I sold both off from my two kits though at the beginning to get some money back, and because I already had a couple other buggy race clutches, which I assumed would be better anyway...

I never have clutch issues with my LST2's, SC8, or buggies either btw.. So I do know how to shim, etc.. This DM-1 clutch-bell situation is just a PIA...

Am trying to decide now what engine to run in it, which also isn't easy.. I have an RB Fire 11 and Jammin JPX .21 NIB ready to go, but everything I have seen so far tells me this car needs a .28...(which ideally would mean using the Fioroni slider, but yeah, then the weird shimming deal...)

Default Kyosho GT2 gearing

I installed the shoe type 2-speed in my Kyosho GT2 and it comes with spur gears and clutch bell. Is it possible to change to a higher gearing using this new setup? Change spur gear or clutch bell gears? What are the part numbers for these?

I converted my 2 speed years ago to the 2 shoe 2 speed. I used the kit that Ipenema offered. This conversion uses Kyosho KYVS058 clutch bell. This allows me to use Kyosho Evolva spin on gears for 1st and 2nd gear.

The parts required are;
kyvs058 - clutch bell
kyvs540-15 - 15T pinion
kyvs540-16 - 16T pinion
kyvs540-17 - 17T pinion
kyvs541-19 - 19T pinion
kyvs541-20 - 20T pinion
kyvs541-21 - 21T pinion

I don't know if the clutch bell that comes with the KYIGW-008 conversion uses the kyvs058 clutch bell or not. If it does you don't need to purchase the new bell ($11). The pinions are $6.50 to $7.00 ea.

Rageworks......I think you're right but i know guys that will brave the pain to get one of those. I'm satisfied that the new Kyosho GT 'race spec' is essentially what most of us have built but with the 'short' chassis and same price total. The first GT i'd seen with dual brakes was built by 'williamw' on another thread. Nice...

Budget? I thought we all just bought and found a way to justify it afterwards

Won't be crying at anything.. Ferraris are nice too, but not buying one of them either.

The Serpent is nice, but IMO another step further away from what GT is supposed to be all about afaic.. All becoming overexpensive and overserious like 8th scale buggy racing..
