Default Stupid rebuild question

Rebuilding an old O.S.CV.15.Took it apart and forgot which way the piston goes in.Does the hole in the piston face the exhaust port or away fron the exhaust port?Thanks,M

if you're talking about the cut out at the bottom it goes towards the front.

This hole also needs to face the front of the engine, thus facing the intake port.
If it would face the exhaust, you would see the hole when the piston is in TDC, and then the engine will loose it's compression, and will not run very well ( I think, never tried it.... )
