Bit of interesting news...

The new R40, in standard production trim (ie race-ready, inc. engine, body etc), will weigh in at a mighty 1950g, and that's no typo. Apparently the two-speed assembly has been over-engineered in a quest for reliability, and the new clutch actually weighs more than the Proceeds. Make of this what you will. The infomation is reliable as it has come straight from the mouth of someone "within the ranks". I'll say no more...
I would actually prefer to wait until I hear from someone that a: I know and b: will say more about source, etc.

This sounds quite a bit like HPI-baiting and, from someone that we don't know and with a single post credited to them, is just a bit too suspicious.

Think about it - does anyone think that a 2-speed and clutch will affect the weight THAT much?

it doesn't have to weight THAT much to make a difference. cuz 1 pound of rotational mass equals 4 pounds of dead mass.

I got an idea! Why don't we wait till the car is released and see how it runs before everyone bashes it. weight, weight, weight... If you can drive. A little weight won't mean a thing. But don't get me wrong, the lighter the better.

I agree about the rotational mass aspect.

I was only speaking about the total weight claim.

My primary point is that someone with a single post that nobody knows came on and posted a claim with no backing other than that "someone in HPI said" -

I am advocating waiting until someone I know of or someone I have heard of actually gets hands on the car and can weigh/evaluate the car. Nothing against JJR, torchedlh, etc. but I don't know y'all and you haven't posted enough for me to have any guage of your reliability - it's like saying I have only known you for two days, I just don't know you enough to really KNOW you.

(btw, this from someone who left the HPI camp a LONG time ago. . .)

Take things you read on a forum on the internet with a mountain of salt. Not to detract from any posters here, but anyone can say they "know someone" at any company in any industry.

Bottom line is, the car is months away from production and still a prototype. There are several prototypes in fact, and the weight of one may very well be more or less than another.

So who knows the truth? No one. If you can, wait until the car comes out to say whatever you want about it. You can talk about features you see in pictures, but you can't weigh pictures and can't trust what someone says about a car that isn't even available yet.
