Awesome performance...
with good car and patience driving style, Mugen shows that they still the force to be reckoned.

too bad for sherperd and motonica. bad luck can happen in a strange time.

Default Ackermann

Hi there

Got some ?´s for ya:

On Sat I was out on the track and played with the ackermann setting. I could not improve my laptimes with the different settings but ended up wondering what we can achive by using the different options.
First, the X was in short wheelbase config and I started off with the A ackermann. Car was easy to drive. Then I changed to C, the car became more nimble and reacted faster to steering inputs. It seemed to me that it carried more corner speed from turn in to apex, but pushed more on throttle after apex. Just my imagination or does this makes sense from a technical standpoint as well?
How is the "jacking" effect of the front inside wheel affected?
Is the change from A to C giving more ore less ackermann effect? What do you guys usually run with the X in short config?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Stefan

last i heard A had more ackerman. as far as i go i usually run A or C but it depends on the body that im using on that day. if i run a central then i use A, if i run the parma r-11 then i run C.

The more angled the tie rods are when viewed from above or below the less the ackerman effect will be. The straighter the tie rods the more ackerman.
It is the difference in angle between the front wheels when turned. So more ackerman means the inside front wheel will be at a greater angle than the outside wheel. Jacking effect is provided by caster. So yes if you increase acerman you will be pushing the inside wheel down earlier. Now the lifting of the outside wheel I'll look into when I get home because I believe the inside wheel will hit it's mechanical travel limit(the holes the pivot balls pass through in the up rite) sooner which will cause an increase in turning radius there by limiting casters ability to lift the out side wheel. BLAA, BLAA, BLAA...

Having the inside rod moved all the way forward should give the car more ackerman and should be smoother coming in and have more steering coming out.... this should have the biggest difference in toe angle at full lock...

Remember our "bell cranks" center is opposite of the uprites, it's backwards.

Ok guys, thanks a lot for your opinions.

Back to the original question:

What is giving more Ackermann effect: A or C?

Sorry fellas I AM TOTALLY INCORRECT REGARDING ACKERMAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Set the car up with "A" making a left hand turn at 15 degs. on the right side of the car and the left showed 20 degs.= +5.
Same set up with "D" and the left showed 18 degs= + 3
I have LEARNED something and would like to thank Francis M.

OK, this makes sense. With C or D we get more turn in but less steering on corner exit.

Thanks a lot! Stefan

Do people put grease on the dogbones. I can only get 2 races and the solid axle and dog bones get pretty wore out. I didn't know if I put lube on them they would last longer or am I making it worse.

Also does anyone have recommendations on a cheap online store, since none of my local hobby shops carry mugen parts.
