Default Spektrum Telemetry Charger?

Help????, I've got a spektrum telemetry system that works great, but the hand held display gobbles up 9V batteries. I have bought an energizer rechargable 9v, and was hoping there is a way to charge this w/out taking the display apart each time. There is what appears to be a charge port right next to the switch. I have called Horizon which is the spektrum service center, but they are clueless too. They believe this port is dead, but there are wires going to it. Has anyone got any experience with this?
Thanks
Ben

Firstly try to see if the port has voltage when the batteries are in.

Secondly, places recommend against not charging in the unit, as battery charging generates gasses that can corrode the inside of the unit (circuit boards and such)

Thirdly, if you still want to go ahead, and the charge port doesn't have voltage on it, you can cut a tiny hole out of the case, and shoe goo a micro deans plug into the case and wire it up to the battery...

If you have something better to add... feel free
