belt vs shaft

hi all,
from what i've gathered, all the top/fast cars are belt-driven, why is this so?

somebody told me that a 'over-powerful engine' will stripped the differential gears of the shaft cars, true?

pls pardon my ignorance.

Science -- it's just the way it is :weird:

It depends on how powerful the engine is and how strong the diff is in that particular vehicle :)

belt drive cars are much better to drive they handle better and the powerband is smoother shaft cars are a pain in the a$$ to drive:)

The simple answer: The current "race" cars have all the advantages the TC3 had (mainly being smooth rolling) with none of the weaknesses (ie blown diffs, being fragile)
