I personally take these articles with a grain of salt as well. I know Luis also struggled with the car on a larger track (Brendale) since it was undergeared.
Yep, undergeared.....and the only guy who'd pit for me had even less of a clue about tuning engines than I did!.....but don't worry about the grain of salt, it's really good, if it wasn't then trust me, I'd can it

The track was crap and we were crap, but thank you for asking.

Seriously though, the track was pretty dusty and everyone took some time to come to grips with it . . . . "grips", get it? . . . . Ahhh, never mind.
Anyway, traction improved towards the end of the day but the difference between being on the black stuff and off it was like night and day.

thanks
You currently have a NS12S3? - that would be just fine, I'd say.
Hop-up's are too heavy but a left side brace is a good idea, methinks.
Yes the car is overdriven - about a 4mm split.

Were you talking to me Taylor? Yeh i have that, was going to go with the NSRS5 but then thought that the extra price wouldn't make a big diff on our TIGHT little track. Is my thinking logical, small track + 3 port = faster than 5port? i dunno lol... too much red cordial

See, I knew I'd get a slappin'.

Now I've not read the article and had presumed you were talking about a couple of months ago when nearly everyone was cutting big chunks off their PB's.
Just which day are we talking about, anyway?

Nope . . . see where it says "Originally posted by SerpentNewbie"

And yeah, engines don't make a big difference at Dandenong.

OK, I guess I was thinking of Round 9. But Round 14 was two months ago (September 21st.) and I think you'd agree it was a reasonably fast day - you and Rob both did 50 laps.

Pos__Car__Name____Laps/Time_____Avg Lap__Best Lap__Cons_Comments
1st __1___Luis Sola___50 / 15m 5.73s__17.98 __16.81___2.13 ___FTD
2nd__2___Rob Lewis__50 / 15m 9.08s __18.04 __17.20___1.34
3rd__5___Sam Taylor__49 / 15m 8.42s__18.38___17.35___1.61

But you're really gonna have to work on that consistancy.
Uh Oh, here comes another slappin'.
Just joking Lu.

As I say, engines don't make a big difference at Dandenong.

Guys that can drive and setup a car, will be out in front. Just look at Luis and JordanC - both of these guys are "Wet Your Pants" fast with a standard Sirio or OS. . . . . and Jordan wasn't going a lot faster yesterday with a hot 'n' strong borrowed JPS3. His FW05R looked pretty good, though he admits it was thrown together. Wait till he gets that one sorted.

For my money, the RR12S3 doesn't make a lot of sense unless it's got a LOT more bottom end than I'm thinking - never seen one run, though, or a Muruan.
I'd prefer better top end for Lilydale and adjust the clutch for Dandenong.

(Now that wasn't too sugary . . . should get me back into Lu's good books.)

I absolutely agree with this. I have seen MANY guys with modded engines slow as heck since they cannot set it right. Not tooting my own horn here too much but I have a bog stock MT12 in my EVO which was actually faster than a Collari modified Picco on a given track (small track) basically due to correct needle, clutch and gearing selections.

Also sparksy on this forum this weekend was running exactly the same motor and car as another gut (in 235mm class) and was reportedly blowing this guy away down the straight and out of corners.

I would personally take a stock and "easy" to tune engine and get used to setting the gearing and clutch up first.

It was the weekend before...

Same engines... and my car was quicker down the straight and out of corners. I think it was more to do with clutch and 2 speed setting. Once we were both at top speed we were fairly even. But getting out of the corner quicker definatly gives the advantage!!
