Thumbs down Fusion Layshaft assembly?!?!?!?!?!

hey guys, i got the Fusion a few weeks ago, and ive had nothing but problems with it, with one thing breaking after another. My latest adventure sees to be with the Layshaft assembly(Part # U2546 i believe.) the gear on it is spinning freely, and doesnt seem to be connected to the shaft in anyway. So basically this sucks....

i dont see how you can take this part apart and the directions dont tell you anything other then its the layshaft assembly.... in other cars in my past this piece has always been able to be taken apart so that you could seperate the gear from the shaft.

Is there no way to fix this or do i have to sell out ANOTHER $30 0r some odd dollars for more parts just to make this car drive... all ive gotten to do is break it in and 2 or 3 more tanks of gas.... after that its just broken..... it really sucks and im starting to regret buying this thing, if its going to continually break and be a money pit.

bustaman... I will have to find my manuel to see what part you are speaking of.. however the outside spur gear bolts have been known to back out and the gear will just spin. I ran my R12 all summer... my screws backed out once.. I locktited them in and had no more problem. I broke a rear belt... a couple of front arms... do to hitting imovable objects and at the end of the year I torn out the pin for second gear.. but I run modded five ports with lots of rip. I didnt feel this car was any harder on parts than my NTC3 (except for the belt) or any other nitro car I raced against. IMHO all nitro cars are hard on parts... they are usually overpowered and go very fast... you have to keep up on all the screws and constantly check over everything before each run... just the nature of the beast

I almost forgot.... I know my manual showed how to dissasemble the 2 speed/shaft assembly... even with out instructions it wasnt very hard to figure out.... you do have the R12 and not the .21 Fusion right?

Bro, The .12 Fusion looks like a fun car, but that's what it is a fun car. Yes you can race it, but just for fun! It was not intended for competitive racing. My suggestion is to hold on to it for extreme fun, and get down to the local shop and get an R12 for racing!

Buddy of mine said there is a company that makes titanium front arms for the RS4, that fit on the R12 exactly? He said eveyone in Texas is running them, but I wanted to know if any of you have tried this?

Hey Chris,

Cross makes an aluminum upper arm that fits on one of the HPI cars but I do not remember which one it was. They fit on the front really well but you do loose a little bit of your castor setting. As for the rear it was not as easy to make them work, you have to shim them a lot toward the back of the car and it moves the rear arm back just a little. I had to shorten the arm about 3 mils(total including ball cup about 5-6 mils) so it would work, by doing this I was able to get the aluminum arms work all the way around on the car. The down side to doing this is it makes it really strong and you are going to break or bend the upper suspension mountwhen you do have a hard impact. I will see if I can post some pic's of my car for you all to check out.

I was also able to make a one piece pipe out of one of the RD Logic off-road hearders that worked out really well. Please let me know if you have any other question.

Larry
