It makes a lot of difference. I got mine installed last week and I feel my car more powerful. As Ah10 said, the power transference from the engine to the gears is better.

Good luck

Yeah, especially if you are running tall gearing, if you are running 18/22 I am almost certain that you can not get the engine shaft line up with the main shaft and that is one of the problem with wearing out the pinion gear!

With the lower engine mount you have more room to accommodate taller gearing like 18/22 and you can align the gear mesh much better and the pinion last a bit longer(but still mugen pinion is soft, you need harden one!)

Also that means Lower CG too and that will benefit on the performance side!

Rumours are out that Mugen will launch the MTX 3 in 2003. Can anyone confirm this?

Default Thrust Bearing

Hi Guys,

It was mentioned before about this but I could not find the original answer.

Which way around do you put your thrust bearing.

One hole is larger than the other, does the larger holed bearing washer go on first?

How far in do you guys have the spring retaining coller on your centax clutch adjusted.

Flush or in 1, 2, 3 threads?

The track I race on is point & squirt, short & technical lots of sharp bends.

Many Thanks

Rumors were out the end of last year about a MTX-3 coming out near the end of 2002. Nobody from Mugen confirmed (or denied) that they were working on the MTX-3. I'd like to see a new car, but hell, I just got my MTX-2 where I like it!!!

Clik, it doesn't matter which race goes on first. Just make sure the groove faces the bearings. My centax is adjusted about about 1 1/2 threads.

Default thrust bearing

I have ProSpec centax and the manual says to put the race with the large bore against the 5x10 ball bearing. You might want to check this!

Sorry, i don't have a picture, but I am using the stock pinions in my kawahara micro centax. Both fit in the small thread.
See sppedtech web for the price I thinks it is around $90

Here it is

It uses Mugen pinion. about $90 but worth the money because it comes with low CG engine, complete clutch and thrust bearing! Just the thrust bearing itself is already $10 and the low CG mount is like $20, so for $60 it is pretty much the same price as Mugen Centex Clutch!

Unhappy Centax clutch adjustment

I have no freakin Idea on how to adjust this thing.... the stock mugen centax, just keeps bangin, the clutch doesn't engage like my serpent one does (silky smooth) this one seems like a 2 speed hit....

I know it's adjustment but I dunno where to look .

and Ideas mayme I over looked sumthin

Thanks

Does it use its own clutch bell or does the centax one fit?

You can adjust the clutch biting point by rotating the round bush which is holding the spring. The further in you rotate it the later the biting point (higher the engine Rev). Vice versa when you rotate it out.
One way of adjusting is to remove the clutch bell and rotate the bush. The other more convenient way is to slot a small allen key into the clutch bell makinf sure it gets sloted into the slot on the bushing and rotate the shaft using the screw that holds the clutch bell.

I know it sounds confusing, I will try to get some pics soon.
