AMB has been progressively going up in price, from where I am it is now 117 usd

I wish someone would come up with an alternative that carries alphanumeric and works with AMB receptor.

It could well be that its because of the decline is the US$? AMB and other European products are bound to cost a bit more then ...

As for alternatives, there are : see http://3hobby.net/modules.php?name=N...ticle&sid=1012

But even this is at 49.00, that's nearly US$100 no including mail.

I emailed AMBr regarding this thread so that they can view our opinions.

This is the response I got from one of their reps:

I fully understand your sentiments regarding the pricing of the AMBrc Personal Transponder. We have tried to add value to the Personal Transponder with the Mylaps.com website (which we allow any software developer to adapt his software to upload race results to) and Mylaps Practice, which, if your track has the new AMBrc3 decoder and an internet connection at the track, allows you to view live practice times on the Internet or on a web-enabled cell phone. We hope to add even more benefits to owning a Personal Transponder in the future, and, as mentioned in the forum of the link you sent, a Personal Transponder should last for years and years if cared for properly.

Again, we realize that the Personal Transponder is not an inexpensive item, but we continue to try to add value to it in other ways to hopefully help offset the initial cost.

Thank you for taking the time to email us, and please let me know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

Dave Fried

This is an interesting discussion here, but the point in this quote has been conviently glazed over. When the things first came out, they were $45!

When they first came out, they were $45!!!

And it wasn't THAT long ago that they came out, and they haven't changed since they came out. Atleast not to the causual observer. Its not like were talking about the price jump AND performance jump in sedans from the Tamiya TA02 to the current Tamiya 415MSXXX. We're talking about a product that has roughly gone unchanged during its entire life span(they counted laps at $45 and they still count laps at $95+), yet has more than doubled in price.

I have one that I got for $65 used. I enjoy the advantages of having one, but just because I understand how beneficial they are to have, doesn't mean I understand why they are so expensive.

To me, it just doesn't make sense. Thats why I currently only own one. And when/if I decide to get another, it will likely be used as well.

And don't even get me started on why the programs to run the AMB system start around $600, cause thats a whole nuther rant!

I'm guessing here but perhaps this could be one of the main reason?

Cmon guys how much was the price of fuel 6 or more years ago ? unfortunately everything goes up, I didnt like paying $150 aussie dollars for amb transponder but I did , could still be using club transponders but I decided to get serious about racing and bought one and have been very happy with it. Yes I do agree they are expensive but I have been using it now for about a year, so far trouble free and had plenty of big crashes. I have seen many times racers forgetting to go out with a club transponder , or putting the wrong one in their car or dead battery in a club transponder. I have gotten over the price of the transponder as it has served me well and once less thing to worry about when other things are going wrong before your just about to head out onto the track for your big race. I seen somebody post a link to a competitors transponder early in this thread and maybe with some competition finally might see some price relief in this market. Just have to wait and see if the competitor is as good, can only hope so.

Make the personal in carbon fiber material...at least that would made me feels better to pay like $100 USD each...

My oldest personal was from 2002...like $50-$55 brand new. Still working fine.
