Nitro Sedan Chassis Setups for Loose Track Conditions
I want to get some feedback from everyone on general guidelines to use when setting up a car for a very loose track.
We just opened our season a couple weeks ago in Portland and the parking lot track we're using has been very loose. This is happening even after blowing the track clean with two leaf blowers, an industrial blower mounted on a push cart, and spraying both sugar-water and VHT down.
So for a loose track, I want to get your opinions on guidelines for the following:
- Chamber
- Toe front & rear
- Chassis roll
- Springs and shock damping
- Diff setups & oil weight
- Diff vs. one-way vs spool (pros and cons of each)
- Tire split for overdrive and underdrive
- Clutch setup (i.e. do you want it to engage early?)
- Etc.
I don't want to start any debates on "this car is better than that car" or "or only use brand XYZ for your tires". Just honest opinions from your experience on setup advice all of us can refer to for a loose track.
Thanks in advance.

I ened up with a 17 and 59 on the 1st gearing to cut down on wheel spin.
37 rears and 40s fronts
silver silver on the springs 40wt front, 35wt rear
-3 deg toe in the rear
+1.5 toe in the front
2mm shim on the rear up right
2.2 rear bar
front bar flat
rear shock postion #1
-1.5 camber in the rear
50000 front diff
lower mount on the front hinge and upper on the rear.
and the most important thing is stay on the racing line, I got wide a few times and the car was junk for a lapp or two.. it will get better after the trees stop dumping the pollen and the rain stays away........

Dan, thanks for posting that setup.
Anyone else care to chime in here to help a fellow racer out?

Here is my parking lot set up. I run a Serpent 710 with a Novarossi NRS12S3
Tires= 35 rear/37 front. Depends on how rough the lot. Smoother go to a harder shore 40/40.
Overdrive wheel size. front 59/ rear 61
Shock oil= 35
Rear Toe= 2.5
Rear camber= 2
Front toe out 1.5
Front camber 2
Front sway bar (blade 0-10 degrees)
Rear swaybar (0mm)
Running front one way
Rear diff (20,000.wt)
Ride hight 4mm front, 6 rear
Shock (serpent) Yellow front, White rear
Shock mount 2nd to top front. Rear, 3rd hole from top
Clutch (light, early engagement)
This worked for old bumpy and not so clean lots. Hope this helps

Loose track = softer spring , lower # on shock oil , less anti-roll , soft tires , lower tension on clutch spring.
Thats a good start. No one can tell you camber settings , just set it till they wear evenly. In fact no one can really give you a setup to follow. Even if they had your car unless there on the same track. Too many variables. So play with your settings until its good.

Thanks GT and AI for your responses.
That's what I was after, mainly general guidelines for dealing with loose conditions.

the 720 diff cases are much smaller than the kyosho so you really can't go by there settings other than that AI gave you the info
