Default Polish the balls!

My car came in today and the first order of business was the inspection of the balls. Sure enough, machining marks are evident. I chuck them in the cordless and spin them up to 1800 while first carefully sanding with 1000 until the ridges are no longer evident with a magnifying glass, and then polishing with the Dremel buff wheel and rouge also while spinning in the drill.

The end result is a mirror finish on the big balls and a diameter reduced from 8.5 to 8.47. I'm sure this will result in a smoother and longer-lasting fit! This is something I always did on my helis and it does make a very noticeable difference.

Edit: I just did some of the smaller balls going from 6.91 to 6.90 in the process. I had to go a little farther on a couple to get the fit I wanted without resorting to squeezing the plastic which I hate to do. I'm trying to get a fit where they do not move from their own weight, but swinging the arms around with the balls installed will allow them to flop around in their sockets.

The rears arms seem to have a looser fit on the balls. Polish carefully. You almost have to fit each ball to its socket because they seem to vary in size/fit somewhat too.

i also would like to know if the 2WD car would be available...............would make a cheap car for new guys to run........Novarossi has a new 3 port abc motor that would be perfect for the classic........i believe this motor will hit the streets at less than 2 bills..... http://www.novarossi.it/products/eng...ic/n21-3t.html
-our last meeting here in Toledo discussed maybe a new class using this motor...IF enough interest.............

If there is interest I will definitely bring in the 2wd car, but up until now I have had no such plans. Here in SoCal I don't see 2wd making a comeback, but maybe in the Midwest, South, and East coast things are different?
I do like the idea of having a 'cheap' class for the new guys to get into, especially if there is a motor to match. Tires last longer, speeds are slower, etc. I would have to imagine the 2wd cars of today handle much better than the 2wd cars of 10+ years ago.
