Default lite-weight diff gears

O.K. so I was a little bored and wanted to make my MTX4R's drivetrain a bit lighter.

this saves almost 3 grams from the diff when all six gears are done. I will post a pic of the little gears later but here is a pic of the larger diff gears I did for 3 diffs.

Hey All,

got the front all built and I am starting the rear. I am missing 4, 3x6 screws for the gear/clutch setup. I will have to visit the LBS for these. Crap!

Question regarding the rear diff. How tight is it suppose to be when not installed? The diff does not turn with ease and I do have to place some effort into it. I can turn it with 2 fingers however is seems too tight. Is this normal?

Cheers!!

It depends on the grease that you used on the rear differential... And if its new, it will take some time for the gears to wear a bit off so they loosen up. Also, by turning the cups by hand is a bit hard... but when you do it through the dogbone/wheel its easier...

I guess you used the 10,000 oil that is supplied with the kit. It is quite stiff, acts like a limited slip and stops the inside wheel spinning up coming out of a corner.

I would not bother looking 3x6mm screws...... I would rather use 3x10mm screws for extra security.

And double the shim thickness ( to make the planetary gears even closer ).

Actually, the 3x6 screws are for the 2-speed gears. I will pick up a screw set and a bunch of other small parts that I will need to keep the 4R running.

Cheers!

I'll be traveling on the end of october to Kissimmee (KRaceway)... Anyone here can shed some light on what basic setting should I use? Im more concerned on what diff grease should I bring with me and what pinions should i put on my car's clutch bell. Anyone have filled up a setup sheet that have raced here?

if you want nice stuff, you dont want 3racing. You're better off getting a few kawahara bits than a whole car of 3racing
